Future Cruise Credit

 Share

Recommended Posts

Spoke to NCL this morning and asked if I could take the future cruise credit and apply it to an existing cruise I have booked for December, 2020.  The answer is no, it must be applied to a new cruise.  What I would have to do is cancel the old cruise and re-book.  Of course, after doing a mock booking, the cost has jumped $500.  Ugh!!!  Now, I am beginning to wonder if I should just take the refund and run!  The letter sent out just says "future" cruises,  with no explanation..

well that's not true. It can be applied to a future cruise that's reserved but is not after final payment yet, that's what our TA told us. I for one prefer full refund but unfortunately it wont happen. With everything going on i am not confident NCL wont file bankruptcy and once that's done they would not have to give us FCC...

My TA talked to NCL and they told her the same thing the OP was told. Really not sure what the truth is at this point. I did send an email to guest relations asking that question so I can get something in writing from NCL when they answer that question.

well those agents are lying. My TA has been in business and an NCL specialist for over 20 years and this is what she said to us..

NCL is allowing you to cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure with a future cruise credit for the full amount paid that is good til 12/31/22. I believe you will get the spa pass refunded to your credit card and it will not be part of this credit. You can apply the credit to an existing booking."

think about it, who at this point can trust anything anyone in NCL says?  also who wants to book any cruise with the way things are going right now. We have a cruise in October ( not paid yet) and we may cancel that as well, wait until the dust settles...

I spoke to my NCL rep, i wanted to rebook my AK cruise in June (which is a mute point now that Canada ports closed till July 1).

This cruise was past final, when i asked if i can cancel and rebook the same thing, the answer was yes but the caveat to this is that i have to cancel the existing, but than would have to wait 7 days for the cruise credit to be applied and then i can rebook at current prices an perks.   I have an excellent cabin booked almost 2 years ago, and that cabin would be made available for the 7 days while waiting to rebook.  Did not want to take the chance that someone else would book my cabin, so i did nothing.

Anyway that is what i was told, but a mute point now, since the cruise might just be cancelled anyway.

Here is the relevant wording regarding "Peace of Mind" quoted exactly from the March 9th letter from NCL/Harry Sommer:  "Anyone choosing to cancel will receive a full refund in the form of a future cruise credit to be used for sailings that embark through December 31, 2022."  That is pretty clear language.  I think, as usual, the call center people are a bit confused.  Hopefully they will be better informed once the dust settles.

I specifically asked this question to my CAS rep two days ago.  I already had a Sept cruise booked through CAS and I was canceling my 3/22 cruise.  He told me that once I get the credit into the account, about seven days, I WILL be able to apply it to my Sept cruise, since final payment is not until May.  The credit is for more than what my final payment is, so he said I would be issued an FCC for the balance.  I also asked if things aren't back to normal by Sept.,  what happens if I canceled that one.  He said that the FCC would carry on and I could apply to a new booking.

As of this point, Peace of Mind is over. Quoting yesterday’s policy is not relevant. Today’s policy is

  • Guests who are booked on voyages with embarkation dates from March 13 to March 17, 2020 are asked to contact their travel professional or contact us for more information.
Guests will receive a 150% refund of the fare paid in the form of a future cruise credit, which can be applied toward any cruise through December 31, 2022.
  • Guests who are booked on voyages with embarkation dates from March 18 to April 11, 2020 are asked to contact their travel professional or contact us for more information.
Guests will receive a 125% refund of the fare paid in the form of a future cruise credit, which can be applied toward any future cruise through December 31, 2022.

Guests who do not want to avail themselves of the future cruise credit will receive a 100% refund of the fare paid reimbursed to the original form of payment within 90 days of completing the request form on this page which will be made available beginning March 23, 2020.

Spoke to my PCC this morning. He said it needed to be a new reservation. I countered that this response is inconsistent with the wording in both the Peace of Mind and 3/14 communication and would not stand up to a legal challenge. “Any future Cruise” is not the same as “any newly booked reservation”. The FAQ’s for Peace of Mind state “The FCC may be used for sailings that embark on or before December 31, 2022. The new booking must be made within one year of the cancellation date.” this is only place the word new is used. Our September 2020 booking was made in August 2019 with final payment due May 2020. The cancellation date of yesterday is within one year of booking. He is escalating.

It would appear that like OBC there are now two types of FCC.  So if the  FCC was issued during the Peace of Mind plan it is applied differently than FCC that was issued outside the plan. Inside the plan must be for a new booking, while outside the plan can be used against a current booking (I know because the latter applied to my next cruise. I got some FCC from one cruise and booked another the same day, a few weeks later it was applied to the new cruise).

So it is similar to if you want to cancel and re-book an existing cruise because the price went down and you give up any of the perks that came with the old booking.

I have had a cruise booked for Dec, 2020 since Nov 2019.  All I wanted to do was to use FCC that I will be receiving because NCL cancelled the cruise.   I have not made final payment on the Dec cruise.  Just have gotten  3 different answers from NCL personnel.  I  realize they are overwelmed and all of this is new, so I will wait until 3/23 to call and try to straighten it out.  Thanks to all.
