Rare arxcards Posted August 11, 2022 #1455 Share Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) Friday, 9th September, 10:30am. Pacific Adventure will arrive to OPT, then move on to White Bay the next day. It will be interesting to see how much clearance there is between the funnels and the deck of the bridge, if any. She is scheduled to transit under the bridge at close to high tide. Rare arxcards Posted September 8, 2022 #1470 Share Posted September 8, 2022 Just easing into the quay at OPT. Not much fanfare on a damp day, but nice to see her here anyway.
By The Bay Posted September 9, 2022 #1471 Share Posted September 9, 2022 Just read this on Cruise Weekly email. It will be interesting to see how much space there is when she passes under the coat hanger. "Pacific Adventure will be one of the tallest vessels able to pass under the Sydney Harbour Bridge thanks to a special marine engineering project which has given the ship the required ‘head room’ to make the transit. That means she will be able to operate from the White Bay Cruise Terminal, where she will move to later on today."

Her chopped down funnel stack gives her enough clearance, that wouldn't have been possible for any of the other Grand Class ships that have called into Sydney in the past. She won't be one of the tallest, but the tallest. That record currently rests with Oosterdam & Noordam, and unless they put some locks in, she has maxed out the possibility. There is bound to be a fair bit of commotion this afternoon with her moving out of OPT at 5pm. Sydney Ports has her going to White Bay 4, not the cruise terminal. From there they have a bit more distance from Balmain, and can perform their drills without upsetting the neighbours. Fair call on choosing not to be celebrating today.

Rare arxcards Posted September 9, 2022 #1475 Share Posted September 9, 2022 Just now, By The Bay said: That is very tight, given that the tides vary by just under 2 metres on Sydney Harbour. The tides have been considered, as well as the position of the service gantry on the bridge. Each arrival/departure requires clearance from the Harbourmaster, and I think apart from king tides, she will fit with a minimum of 0.8m clearance. Lower tides offer more clearance. It will be a 1.5m tide at the planned transit time. This was a general calculation - I am sure Sydney Ports will release some magic numbers in the next few days.
