Correct. The Scotsman was wearing the standard attire of the time ie a plaid not a kilt. A plaid is just one length of woollen cloth, held together by a belt. When they went into battle they dropped the plaid, as it was too heavy, and just fought in their shirts.

Having Scottish ancestry I watch whatever I can about Scotland  (watched a program on TV today on Mary Queen of Scots) and I recalled the Battle of Culloden was fought on a field like in the picture.
