Almost 3,000 Post Offices are privately-owned and operated businesses. It has been that way for several decades.

Country and some Regional ones are like franchises, our Batehaven News Agency is also a post office, operated by the newsagent, does not do passports though.

 

The main big one in Batemans Bay is not privately owned, part of the big company. That does passports.

We have two post offices close by, the first is part of a newsagency. The second is a proper post office which does passports and is privately owned/run. It has had a couple of different owners over the years and have always provided good service.

We have two post offices within easy reach. I am pretty sure both are privately run, but they are stand-alone post offices, not part of a newsagency. However they sell all sorts of 'stuff' as well as offering the usual post office services.
