Princess Casino Booking Cancellation - Question about Feeds, FCC, Vacation Protection, etc

Hi all - we recently cancelled a September 2021 Alaska cruise and rebooked with a Thanksgiving 2021 Eastern/Western 14-day cruise.

When I booked, it was via a comp'd cruise with a $200/person deposit and we purchased the Platinum vacation protection plan as well.

When I cancelled, I was told I don't get the deposit back (which is fine, I know it's non-refundable) but I also don't get the Vacation Protection fee back either. I also couldn't use FCC from a previously cancelled cruise on this cruise because it's a casino booking.

My questions are -

1) For those who have cancelled casino bookings, do these answers match what you've experienced?

2) Could I use the vacation plan to get a refund of the $200 deposit?

3) If Princess ends up cancelling the cruise too, does anything above change?

I'm okay with either losing the $200/person OR the vacation protection plan fee, but I don't understand why I'm losing both.

I had a casino cruise booked for 2/13/21.  Since they cancelled, I got everything back.

Waiting to hear if our August Alaska will be canceled I'm pretty sure it will be, but when they canceled yours were you given the option to rebook using the same promo?  Ours included  a balcony and VIP amenities and an Ultimate VIP cruise in fall 2021 or Spring 2022.

I had a new promo that I was able to use.

Good to hear.  Including that one I booked 4 cruises using casino offers but currently have nothing new so we'll just wait and hope things improve in the next 7 months enough for the border to open and cruises to be allowed again.

If not we'll have another chance in December and February 2022.

We had a casino cruise booked for April 2021 that Princess cancelled

we used FCC (future cruise credit) for the deposit

we paid extra to go from inside cabin (free) to balcony

we paid for taxes and port fees

we paid for the protection plan

all total we paid $1,052,  We were refunded everything.  The FCC went back on our account and we received the monies paid back to our credit card

Sorry yours was cancelled but it sounds like Princess is taking care of its passengers.  We upgraded to a mini suite, paid the taxes and port fees and will buy the protection plan soon but its available to purchase up to final payment is what I was told.  In Canadian its $$$ but worth it!

If you had a Casino COMP cruise, you would have Paid in full up front.

The port taxes fees..... thats how its done.

It sounds like you booked something else if you were told, "up until final payment."

Perhaps a discounted fare?

There is a difference in casino cruises.

Also, theres a Casino Cruise catergory for further info. Can scroll down... 😉

My portion of the fare was paid in full at time of booking.  The Casino on our last cruise waited until final payment to pay their portion.  I was told that the Princess Protection can be deferred but must be paid in full by me I thinks its around 90 days before sailing.  Which I'm perfectly fine with just waiting it out a bit to see if the ship is actually going to go.

I was able to rebook using same promo.  It was the 1st one with a $100 deposit.  I am afraid mine won’t go, hope to rebook again....

Nope.  But there were other offers out there that were similar..instead we're doing a free 15 day to Hawaii.  The offer was only for a interior but we paid to upgrade to a mini.  It has the VIP amenities and all that..And $400 in free play.  So, I'll happily trade a 15 day to Hawaii for a 7 day Caribbean.

We used the VIP offer for Alaska, and the other offer was for 3 cruises up to 20 nights, FP, and the Best Sale Ever amenities with upgrade and specialty dinner.  So we are doing the 5 night Cabo with the 15 night Hawaii B2B in December on the Grand and 20 nights on the Enchanted Princess in February of '22.  I booked them all in case they changed their mind lol.  So unless they send me something new I've used absolutely everything!

We live in BC and have never been to Alaska always gone south so looking forward to it.  Also never been to Hawaii so will be nice to finally get there.  My husband really liked the mini suite we had on the Sky and his only request was we book that category again.

Agree that the deposit is not refundable but you might want to try another agent re: PVP.  Here's what Princess says about refunds of PVP:

https://www.princess.com/plan/princess-vacation-protection/

"Q: What if I want to cancel my PVP coverage? How does that work?
A: PVP is refundable until final payment is due. For new bookings made within final payment, the PVP plan cost is only refundable within 10 days of purchase provided the person hasn't departed on the trip nor filed a claim. "

Technically the casino considers the final payment to be upon booking but if, say, you paid for an upgrade to a higher category cabin, the normal cancellation policy would apply.  And that would give you 100% back if you were 90 days prior to sailing.  In addition, you didn't have to buy PVP right away - you could have waited until 90 days before the cruise to do so.  It might be worth calling back to see if they will refund your PVP, or at the very least consider moving it to another booking.
