American Airlines FYI

I am flying to Nassau on AA July 8, returning on the 24th.

One connection each way

Because of all the hoopla about AA cancelling July flights, I decided to check on my flights in my AA Account

Surprise

My flights were changed  (very late departure for return from Nassau)

My connections were changed to different connecting city on return

in one case my seats were changed and we are not sitting together

I can live with all the changes but I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM AA

My advice:  do not rely on American to notify you of changes.

Some of that may have to do with whom you book through...  If you book through another website or TA, AA schedule change notifications (unlike delay or cancellation notifications) go primarily to the agent of record (even if it's a website).  That was an issue for me when 99% of my travel was issued by our internal travel department.  Also, even on AA-issued tickets, I wouldn't always get notified of a schedule change, or not get notified until after they were done loading the schedule changes, which may be a couple of days after I notice something shifted.

Long story short, definitely pays to watch for changes, and I'd expand that to all airlines given all the summer surge fun we've been seeing.

This is typical of AA.

Usually they make the change and a week or more later you get the notification.

As a result I try to check more often within six to eight weeks of a trip.

That flight must be pretty full if your seats are not together.

If the schedule change puts you onto flights where there are not two seats together, it is HIGHLY unlikely that the airline would move someone else just to accommodate putting you back together.  Thought problem:  How would you feel if someone moved your seats to give them to someone else?

I always receive notifications of flight changes from every airline I fly as I book direct.

Be prepared for more flight changes and cancellations before your departure.  AA is having severe problems with staffing from checkin agents to ramp staff to flight crews.

I booked directly through AA on their website and I did not get any notification which is why I am alerting everyone to check

I am not asking for the seats to be changed so I do not understand that comment.  Simply stating what the changes were.

I said I can live with all the changes.

We are experienced travelers who are accustomed to stuff happening.

The long delay departure day just means more time in the lounge.

We are used to bumps in the road when we travel so nothing is really a big deal.

BTW Delta is really good about emailing changes.

Interesting, I am ExecPlat with AA and practically live on their planes, and they tend to let me know just about immediately if there are any changes...even if it's just a flight number change but times remain the same. I wonder if it's some setting somewhere?

That has been my experience even when the changes are minute changes in arrival and/or departure of my flights.

My experience with AA is that they tend to operate very "lean" when it comes to back-up crews particularly on their connecting flights from ORD on a PSA operated subsidiary.
