Not reasonable to me as we do not need to be on the Internet 100% of the time.

For a 33 day cruise we have scheduled, the platinum/elite benefit used to be 500 minutes each, a total of 1000 free minutes for the two of us. Certainly enough for the amount we would use on this cruise.

With the new discount, instead of 1000 free minutes we will have to pay a combined $330.

I do not consider that a great benefit.

Why do you need two packages.  Buy one package for $165 and share it.

That is why the plus package doesn't work for us non drinkers. The cost of internet for one and gratuity for 2  is much less then the plus package for two.

You are right, that is the way to do it.

Still not a good deal compared to 1000 combined free minutes.

How do you share the one device between 2 people? Log off one device and log onto another? Would have thought the system would track device used to prevent that.

It's one device logged on at a time, not number of devices.

Yes it is confusing for some when Princess lists it as "one device" rather than "one device at a time". The skeptic in me wonders if that is intentional to get couples to purchase a second package.

Yes log off one and log on to another.  You are paying to have one wifi account. You can use as many devices as you want one at a time.  My wife and I share it for our two phones and our tablet.   The minutes free or not never worked for us even if just checking emails because the old service was so slow that we burned through minutes just waiting for a page to load. We are platinum and $5 a day is real bargain. We paid $10 a day on Royal Caribbean for one device and that $10 was a sale price because we purchased a drink package for $49 a day. $19 was the regular price at the time for surf and stream.

Actually, when you try to sign on a 2nd device, the system informs you that there is already a device connected and asks if you want to continue which would mean the system will sign off the first device if you do continue.

Yes that is true. Sometimes the second person forgets to sign off which was a problem when buying or using free minutes. The minutes could be eaten up if the person didn't sign off properly.

In the cabin, we use a portable wifi router - it counts as "one device" - but connected to it and using its MedallionNet network connection we can have as many devices as we want.  We always bring a laptop, that and a couple iPhones and iPad use the router.  Of course, outside the cabin we have either to share or have 2 (or 4) user account.

I will post this also on the thread about revised Elite benefits.

There was an outstanding question on internet pricing over 30 days.  When purchasing internet, an older item identifier appears in Cruise Personalizer which mentions 2-30 days, or similar, so question was what is the pricing like for >30 night voyage?  Well, the answer is the same $10/day charge for 1-device and $20/day for 4-devices.

So, it remains the longer voyage one is on, the more expensive internet is than it used to be.  I guess we just have to adjust to the new pricing for time being at least.  For us lucky ones who get the discount, it is only $5/day.  But, if you cruise for 60 days or 100 days in linked voyages - or a Round the World type trip - well, it's going to add up.

Best idea is to sail with friends and share a 4-device package on those long voyages.  And don't forget to pre-order before you sail.

Not the greatest for us cruisers, but I can see their reasoning.  Expect the tag-line in Cruise Personalizer and on-board purchases to be updated in near future.
