SJSULIBRARIAN Posted June 9, 2022 #212 Share Posted June 9, 2022 As long as there are Covid cases on a ship, won't they be in orange? I think it is inevitable there will be cases on ships just as on land. Are there any ships with passengers that are green now?
syesmar Posted June 9, 2022 #213 Share Posted June 9, 2022 (edited) @SJSULIBRARIANThere are currently 2 Green passenger-carrying ships and 2 Yellow passenger-carrying ships reporting to the CDC. With HAL there used to be some fluctuation with passenger-carrying ships, but since April 18 they’ve been consistently Orange (Eurodam and Zuiderdam had brief improvements mid-May). syesmar Posted June 13, 2022 #214 Share Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) The color status with today’s update, based on 6/10/22 data, is still the same on all ships as Post 211. The only change is that Westerdam (Green) is again listed as passenger-carrying. Edited June 13, 2022 by syesmar

syesmar Posted July 18, 2022 #218 Share Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) As of the most recent update, all HAL ships in US waters were still Orange, with no changes for 4 weeks. There will be no more Color Status updates from CDC, as they have made some changes and posted these notices on their website (the Color Status page now re-directs). from https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/cruise-travel-during-covid19.html *As of July 18, 2022, CDC’s COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships is no longer in effect. CDC will continue to publish guidance to help cruise ships continue to provide a safer and healthier environment for passengers, crew and communities going forward. For more information, please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). *What Happened to CDC’s COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships? CDC has worked closely with the cruise industry, state, territorial, and local health authorities, and federal and seaport partners to provide a safer and healthier environment for cruise passengers and crew. Cruise ships have access to guidance and tools to manage their own COVID-19 mitigation programs. Additionally, cruise travelers have access to recommendations that allow them to make informed decisions about cruise ship travel. While cruising poses some risk of COVID-19 transmission, CDC will continue to publish guidance to help cruise ships continue to provide a safer and healthier environment for crew, passengers, and communities going forward. *Why was the cruise ship color-coding system removed? The previous color-coding system under CDC’s COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships depended upon each cruise line having the same COVID-19 screening testing standards, which may now vary among cruise lines. Therefore, the cruise ship color status webpage has been retired. CDC will continue to provide testing recommendations for cruise ship operators to follow and cruise ships will continue to report COVID-19 cases to CDC. Can explain to me what covid screening testing standards have to do with actually reporting positive cases? Seems sketchy. IMO, they tossed the color coding system because ships can't keep covid off and a continuous stream of 'orange' is unfair to the travel sector. PS: Thanks for this thread! You've done a great job keeping up with the info. Edited July 19, 2022 by BermudaBound2014
syesmar Posted July 19, 2022 #220 Share Posted July 19, 2022 @BermudaBound2014 Thanks for your kind words. Regarding the Color Status’ relationship to testing, if all ships were not having the same minimum standard of testing, the baseline is going to be different among ships. For those who drop the requirement, it’s pretty much a given those cruises will have cases from Day 1 onward. I, too, think they’ve surrendered to the reality that every ship—and now nearly every sailing—will have infections. Prior to this past Spring this wasn’t always so, at least as far as test reporting went. For HAL over the last few months, as soon a ship would move from Crew Only to Passenger-Carrying, it would quickly go from Green to Orange and consistently stay Orange. Out of the 94 cruise ships participating with CDC, only one was not Orange on the final day of reporting. It has been this was for weeks, with only 1 or 2 not Orange on a given day. All the Best!
