Travel insurance in the time of COVID

None of them ever will frankly - that's not an "insurable event" . Its also not new I don't think - its a bit like the general clause which no one ever read which precludes cover for war declared or not, pandemic etc .  I also can't get insurance for anything related to covid on  a cruise (even with cruise cover).

So will you take your chances and cruise without Covid cover ?

Cheers Carole

I will not even take an Interstate tour without Covid cover insurance, and would not consider a cruise without Covid cover.

I do not get travel insurance within Australia.  However, I book last minute and I wait until the airline cancels the flights, so I get a full refund.  (3 out of 3 interstate trips cancelled).  Overseas travel is on hold pending travel insurance situation.  US is off wish list, whilst UK is still on wish list.

Given my other option is to give up cruising - yes I will. I consider the chance of getting covid very low. I think the charge of getting ill enough to go to hospital with Covid vanishingly low. So the only costs we'd be looking at is transfers and some hotel time, tests.

We will be fully vaccinated with as many jabs as  that takes by july

Yup that's a good strategy too. I'm hoping against hope to get somewhere warm in the next few months- most likely northern NSW or sunshine coast - I'd be booking about a week out if it happens

We are doing a 7 day escorted tour to Longreach. If we are defined as a close contact during the tour, we will need to go into 7 days isolation (under current QLD health directives). We would be unable to continue on our tour and would need to find accommodation and re-arrange our travel back to NSW. Insurance will cover these costs. This would be the first time I have ever considered domestic travel insurance.
