Amenities for booking segments

I am interested in booking a segment of the 2024 world cruise.  Is it normal that segments do not include any perks or amenities?  Also no cabin assignments, just guarantee stateroom.  And when you do you get room assignment?  HAL said 1 month before sail date, is this true?

Always done this way. Their priority is selling the full world cruise. Every cabin not already sold to a full cruise passenger is available to sell to a potential full cruise passenger until approx a month out.  At that point they assign the remaining cabins to the passengers holding gaurentees.

If you are doing a segment (or more) of the Grand World Voyage, you do receive the gifts given every once in a while, and are eligible to participate in whatever festivities are happening. You are considered a full-fledge member of the cruise in that respect.
For example, when I took a couple of segments of the GWV a couple of years ago, I was aboard for the President's festive evening ashore. I was free to go to that, just as the full cruise passengers did.

Stateroom category guarantees are the best one can get on a segment.  Assignment of the stateroom will come 3-4 months before sailing date.  GWV gifts for that segment?  I remember receiving them.  (Not very many on a 17 day cruise.)  Invitations for special GWV events?  If there were any, I didn't get one.  But, I did receive and was recognized for my Mariner Society status.  Quite enough, I think.

Thank you all for your reply.  I guess we will need to pay for the crew incentives, internet package, drink package etc if we decide to book one of the segments.

Good to know that we can participate in their activities as if we are doing the full voyage.

If cabin assignments are 3 - 4 months from sail date do we get cabins in bad locations, obstructed views, cabins that nobody wants?  I have never booked a guarantee cabin before.

You could luck out and get a good location, but on a segment it could be iffy.  I understand that's the best you can do at this point, but if it was me, I would be prepared with printed deck plan for each floor and highlight the best cabins to hope for.  That way if you get one of those, you're good to go, and if not maybe they can move you to one of those - but act fast once you get your assignment.

Good luck!

I normally book a cabin I have selected myself, but of course had to book a guarantee for my segments. I was very fortunate to get an excellent assignment.

I booked an inside, as is customary for me, so maybe that had something to do with getting a nice spot; there may have been a lot of them. I was on one of the high decks, where I had never been before, but very close to the forward elevator, in the mid-ship area. It was so strange to hit the elevator 'UP' button when heading to my cabin!

Sometimes you can get lucky.

I don't know guarantee only for segments is true of most of the cruise lines, but I found that Cunard has this policy when I wanted to book a 77-day segment of their 2023 WC.  It hardly made sense not to book the entire 118 (approx.) day full cruise.  Unfortunately, it was booked.

My "Ha, Ha" reaction to your post was due to this comment.  It was a "mental adjustment" for those of us who have resided for many years on Dolphin Deck.
