Activities on board

From those folks who have cruised this year:  How is O handling the onboard activities they have us do for those treasured 'O' points?  Do they still do team trivia, music trivia, putting, ping pong etc?  How about the entertainment, is it capacity controlled or ...?  Would love to hear how things have changed on board in the last couple of months for those that have previously sailed.  As a seasoned Oceania cruiser I'm looking forward to doing all the things I love besides visiting foreign lands!  I've already read enough about the food, which of course is another wonderful things about O!

And the answer to your question, Yes to all, at least on Riviera as we are 🙏to be on now. Yes to masks and distancing and reduced dining capacities too.  We are sailing with under 500 guests and pretty much a full staff so everyone is having a chance to get 18 months of rust off without unnecessary pressure. Our fourth segment, Rome to Miami is Sold out and will sail full.
I am sure there are glitches here and there but I would say it is a normal Oceania sailing with great service and attentive staff.

That’s fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing. We are joining Riviera for the full sailing for Rome to Miami. Is the fitness center open and are masks required while exercising? I’m hopeful mask restrictions will ease once we leave the EU and start the actual crossing (there have been reports of that on other ships) but I’m prepared for anything. We are just so happy to be traveling again!

Tell me more about O points

Different activities  can get you O points. Example, when we play trivia. We put together a team from our cruise critic  roll call group. At the end of each session the top  team each get O points.  I remember shuffleboard got points also. The points were on little laminated cards. The last day you could turn in your O points for Oceania stuff. We didn't  have enough for the t shirt but one of our new friends had loads extra so she gave me some.

By sold out do you mean 100% occupancy or 100% of the level Oceania has decided to sail with?

Also curious about where the "sold out and will sail full" information is coming from as there are presently 9 categories showing availability on the web site for Rome to Miami.

All we know is that they are telling us we are sold out. Now that can mean sold out of the staterooms they will make available and not really 100% of staterooms actually sold.  Maybe sold out at 90% capacity.
the gym is definitely open, don’t know about the mask requirements but it is an in pride venue so would guess so. Outside in Italy we can be maskless as that is how it was on our first Italian tour today in Bari.
Just come aboard and LOVE LIFE. People are so happy to be sailing 🤪😷👍

The mask mandate applies as it is an EU regulation.  We will be sailing from Miami to LA in December on Insignia and understand there will be no mask requirement on board as it isn't required when sailing from the US.  I assume when in international waters there will be no mask requirement so you should be mask free for your trans Atlantic.  We did that route a few years back on one of the small ships and loved it.  We did follow a hurricane so it got a little rough and Bermuda was a mess when we got there but it sure beat a very long plane ride and was a nice way to change your inner clock!

If your cruise has a day or two of sea days with time to spare, the Scavenger Hunt is lots of fun!

Oh my that sounds like fun.  However with 13 Oceania cruises under our belt we've never had one.  Is it something on the big ships, as we only have been on the 'littles'?  There was an art search on one cruise but you had to find details in pictures on the walls, very detailed and we knew of no one who undertook it.  Details please! 😁

In the early years i remember them having a scavenger hunt  but do not recall seeing them  in the past several years

Maybe I was just not looking for them 😉

We've been on 10+ and only found the Scavenger hunt on two: both 14 days cruises. One was the Mexican  Riviera (Holiday cruise) 2016/2017 onboard the Sirena and the other was Australia-NZ (Jan-Feb 2020) onboard the Regatta. The Scavenger card was located where the daily Sudoku cards were placed. Cruise Director (or staff) took photos of items around the ship e.g., partial part of vase or oil painting, top of railing, towels in fitness, portion of display in boutique etc.  Lots of fun and some crew would give hints as we were on the hunt and getting warm. O points rewarded.

We've done the art search a couple of times. Good way to check out the art, get a little exercise, earn some Big O points and see some areas of the ship you may not have seen before.

I hope Oceania  have used this quiet time of no cruising to review the entertainment and on board activities or should I say lack of them .
My only bug bear with them is how very boring the evenings are , one show at 9.30, come on ,not everybody eats early especially in Europe .
Trivia is ok but it’s the same old thing .I’ve been in the bar just before dinner everybody enjoying the pianist chatting and socialising having a nice time , started the Trivia and the bar virtually emptied out.
I think it’s a time for a rethink , I don’t want rowdy over the top stuff , music you can’t hear yourself talk , but something with a bit of enjoyment .

Good luck with that. Sounds like you want some things that other cruise lines already offer, historically Oceania has tried to not be that.

We had one on our 18 dat Australia Cruise in Nov/Dec 2019.  Trying to find the 100 items was difficult to say the least.  We were able to chase down 98.
