Oasis of the Seas “Mimi Fridge”?

Two questions:

I’m aware Balcony Staterooms have a “Mini Fridge”, but am I correct that they aren’t a Refrigerator.

And, not being a Refrigerator how does one keep anything cold?

They don't, just "not hot".   You had me at "Mimi" though.  I know a Mimi!  😉

They are a cooler.  Basically it keeps things cool, not cold.  And it may take a long time to cool from room temperature.

I don’t bother. No microwave so I don’t need to bring my leftovers back from dinner and the cafe & pizza place are open 24/7. 
 

If you have a need for medication, they can accommodate.

IF you need a cooler for medication they will bring a small portable box that can either heat up or cool down.   plugs into the outlets at the desk/vanity area and can be placed under the desk/vanity.   

One time we got one for my Mother's medicine and I had no idea it could be used as a heater and I put her stuff in, turned it on and went to dinner.     after dinner she wanted to check that was cold and I discovered I had put on the heat mode.      Good thing we weren't gone all day or her meds would have been destroyed.

I’m assuming it has been a money saving measure for many years of ship building due to the cost of  Mini Refrigerators and possibly the electricity needed. Cruise Lines should stop using the term “Mini Fridge”.

I’ve seen one hack of putting a bucket of ice inside the “Cooler” to keep it cooler.

On the newer ships, the fridge really does get cold.  On the Anthem, for example, it works very well to make and keep bottles cold.  🙂

Bottled water, even if kept on hand only to take medications, is better when cooler.  And it is a nice storage place for the water, gets it off the counter.
