Didn't want to start another Cheers thread so I'll ask here.  Do the tips you leave for bar/coffee bar purchases go directly to the bar staff or do they go into the giant "tip jar" that is payed to everyone?

The 'extra' tips you leave on the ticket you sign (say, $1) go directly to that bartender.  The standard 18% goes into the pool.

We asked about that on MG last week. We were told by the bartender that extra gratuities in cash or adding to the signed receipt makes no difference, they are all pooled, not specifically kept by the bartender/server.

I have been told the opposite on Sunshine. Strange!

Different ship maybe? I hope they're pooled... we left cash for drinks at the casino bar in the folder with the signed receipts and a different bartender came and grabbed the folder. 😲🤔

Strange! Yeah might be different ways of doing things on different ships. I can't see why in either case they'd have an incentive to lie about it!

I brought a bunch of singles to tip on drinks this past January cruise on Magic.  I'm not sure if it was any different than the extra dollar I added on the receipt.  It was a bit more of a hassle to remember the cash.  I always bring cash for Room Service which they smile over.  I wish we knew what was most beneficial to the staff, cash or added to receipt.🤷‍♀️

my rule of thumb is always, cash is king. that cash can be spent immediately, added to receipt they have to wait for payday to spend it.
