I dont recall saying or implying about demise of cruise industry.

I just find it curious that cruise lines would make a decision that would limit their business

Limit their business? They are having record booking numbers (and not just "FCC" holders) and ships keep increasing in capacity. And guess what? They keep filling them up and adding more ships every week!

Why do some people think with now 80% of over 12  having their first vaccine shot in the US that there is "limited" business opportunities? Vaccinated are now the MAJOR MAJORITY in this country and NOT being vaccinated is an ever shrinking minority. There are FEW medical reasons at this point to not get the shot, and there are so few of those that do qualify it's statistically insignificant to the cruise lines. 80% is likely a pretty large majority of those who cruised prior so I don't think they are losing any business.  Why would the cruise lines cater to an ever shrinking population?

If 30-40% get their children vaccinated ASAP (like I am doing as soon as I can find a damn appointment in Reno) they will have an ever growing base to pull from as that rate continues going up. Honestly,  now that my youngest has the opportunity to get vaccinated, I have no issue restricting it to 5+ vaccinated only once the supply is readily available and those that WANT it have gotten it. I do not see these vaccine requirements going away in the near-future. If this means "less kids" on the ships I am fine with that.

I'm curious whether NCL is seeing an increase or a decrease in bookings due to their 100% vaccinated requirement?

NCL is the only cruise I've booked with a nearly $1k cut in fare for a cruise ~6 months out, if that's any indication. They're also the stingiest with refunds, have the most predatory practices in terms of allowing families to reschedule after they keep changing requirements. I think they have a very vocal customer base who are absolutely loving the sailing conditions right now (virtually empty ships), and would literally cheer the company into bankruptcy to keep that.

You don't really believe that nonsense, do you? The proof is in the pudding: ships are more than half empty and will be for the foreseeable future. Cruise lines are hemorrhaging money right now, with most of them hoping to become profitable in 2022. NCL said that a small, niche brand hit a record for booking (Oceania), but worded it in such a way to bring gullible marks (you) around to this idea that somehow everything is dandy.

Not just that the ships are more than half empty but the current protocols, ie testing, masks, distancing, etc are really taking the fun out of cruising....or even planning a cruise. We have an Odyssey cruise (L&S from Feb 2021) booked in Feb 2022 that we haven't even bothered looking for flights for because we really just want a refund for so we can use those dollars on a family vacation elsewhere. We'll return to cruising when all this is over but who knows if the cruise line will even be called Royal Caribbean when that happens. I don't gamble in the casino so why would I want to gamble on a cruise and possibly having one of us test positive during the cruise and being quarantined.......no thanks.

NCL isn't doing masking except in Europe where it's mandated.   You could be quarantined anywhere outside the US on vacation if you get COVID.  See below.

Actually, Carnival has been sailing at 75 percent.  A recent Royal Caribbean cruise sailed at 85 percent and they expect to be sailing at close to full capacity soon.  Most people over 12 are vaccinated.  I haven't sailed yet but have a 2022 sailing booked.

NCL doesn't allow unvaccinated kids to sail anyway so we're out. We have no problem waiting out the mandates, lots of vacation options in North America.

We have a January 23rd Oasis cruise booked - L&S from 2019, so unless something drastic happens we will be on the ship, but it will be my last cruise until the pre testing requirement is lifted.  We are both fully vaccinated, so that requirement is good, but as we have to fly to just about any cruise port, it's just too much stress to know that 2 days prior to departure, we might not get to go.  Of course we can do what we are planning for January, which is to quarantine 2 weeks prior so we are pretty much assured of testing negative, but who wants to live like that - just for a cruise?  Not us.

The only standard NCL is setting is significantly increasing the likelihood of a COViD breakout on their ships. While I understand the desire to get back to cruising normally, I will stick with cruise lines like RCI that have protocols in place to protect everyone on board the ship.

Let’s not forget that Royal has vaxxed only venues, the casino being one area. Vaxxed only areas are mask free.  NCL just has more vaxxed only areas and does not allow un-vaxxed people on board their ships. How is that “significantly increasing the likelihood of a Covid outbreak on their ships”? Just the opposite from where I’m sitting.

NCL allows zero un-vaxxed people onboard their ships. Don’t quote me on this but I don’t think NCL accepts exemptions either.

Many people who are fully vaxxed are also getting their booster shots. I’m boostered and I’m so looking forward to being on the fully vaccinated  NCL Joy in December. Back to a normal cruise experience and can’t wait.
