When we sailed from Civitevecchia we stayed at the Hotel San Giorgio, which is very near the cruise port.    The staff were very pleasant, and very approachable, and they also provided transport to the port, for the day of our sailing.    I think if you booked directly with them on their website there was no charge for the bus transfer, but if you used other sites to book, they charged approx 10 Euros (this was in November 2017).     They helped us to organise a pre cruise get together with others from our Roll Call, with wine and tapas.    It was very popular with others from our cruise too.

Another vote for the San Giorgio, UNLESS you plan to spend at least two days in the center of Rome doing heavy duty sightseeing.  But if you just want to fly in one day, and get on the ship the next day, then it makes more sense to go directly to Civitevecchia.  The San Giorgio is an older hotel, well-kept, right on the main street across from the water, and it has a very nice balcony dining room.

There are various conveniently located hotels in Civitavecchia. Are they good?  Debatable.

There have been some comments on here about San Giorgio in the past doing a bit of the "bait and switch" on rooms, also did not refund some cruisers due to the pandemic and cancellations that resulted.

There is a fairly long, recent discussion on Civitavecchia hotels here:

Long story short, in my opinion you are better off spending the night in Rome, even if it is just one night. Civitavecchia is not in any way a "charming" place and most of the hotels do not try very hard due to their captive market. Even worst case scenario Rome is only about 75 minutes to the port by car.

Agree

After arrival, up to 2 hours immigration and Customs, would take it’s toll after a long flight etc...  Best to take a Rome hotel, even if it’s close to the airport.  Unwind, Dine, passeggiata, sleep, breakfast.  Then travel refreshed to Civi.
