In 2018 we stayed at a Marriott Courtyard downtown.  Decent location and they had a shuttle to ship, which our children, who had flown in from LA, used.  We had our car and had a reservation for valet parking at pier.  Couldn't get 5 plus luggage into the car!

We used to stay at the Embassy Suites near the sports arena, but it was horribly priced when we tried to book for February. The Home2Suites on Harborside was very reasonably priced for a nice accommodation. But then we had to cancel anyway, because the cruise was cancelled.

we have stayed in Ybor before.  There is a Hampton Suites and Hilton Garden Inn which are reasonably priced.  You can also hit up Gaspar's Grotto for a great brunch with alcohol and lots of seafood.  We stayed at the Hilton Garden and the hotel has a free shuttle to the port.

We have also stayed along the Riverwalk on the Hillsborough River which is next to downtown.  Lots to do down there.  We stayed at the Sheraton which is an older hotel but nicely updated.  Lots of bars and restaurants.  There is also the Curtis Hixon Park along the water front that usually has some type of concert or event going on (pre-Covid at least).

Or you could stay Chanel Side right next to the port.  I have never stayed here though.  Little more industrial/commercial mix.  There are a few hotels and restaurants.  Also have the Aquarium and the WWII Victory Ship museum.
