Playtennis Posted December 31, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2021 We are optimistic about our cruise next November – our first Regent cruise. Maybe CDC will straighten out what they want us to do for cruising by then. Two questions for those experienced: We will be flying into Italy two weeks before the cruise and finish up our self-tour of northern Italy in Rome the day before embarkation. (A night’s stay before embarkation is in the package of the cruise). We will need to travel from Rome to Civitavecchia. Question 1: since we are not using Regent’s flight, will they still accommodate our one-night stay at the hotel in Rome? Question 2: Will the cruise provide transportation to the port? Thank you
flossie009 Posted December 31, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2021 If you have booked a Concierge suite or above, the one night hotel stay, breakfast & bus transport to the ship is included. Alternatively you could take a credit on the hotel & make your own arrangements. Many find this preferable but be aware that the drive from Rome to the port is over an hour so a private transfer will not be cheap. Hope you enjoy your first Regent cruise.

TomTN Posted December 31, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2021 Train , Private car, Van. Train is inexpensive, and fairly quick. Car runs about 130E. A shared van will be somewhere in between. We've used a car and van. Several reputable companies. "Rome in limo" is consistent.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted December 31, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2021 We did a private transfer, but were able to share with another couple on our cruise. Hard to do on Regent I think, since so many have their transfer built in. It was easy to find reputable drivers, and it's definitely worth it for the convenience and comfort. Rare RachelG Posted December 31, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2021 We have always booked a private transfer using Rome in Limo. Very reliable
Aloha 1 Posted January 1, 2022 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2022 Try "Rome Cabs". Reliable and reasonable service to FCO or Roma.
Camillus112 Posted January 1, 2022 #8 Share Posted January 1, 2022 It was 2009 and we are going on a luxury line "on the cheap". So we took the train from Rome to the Civitavecchia train station. At the time...and better find out for now if considering the train...we needed to schlep suitcases up the stairs (real, not electric) from the bay to the train terminal. We were recommended a taxi to the terminal...the taxi, for some reason, could not, or did not, want to enter the terminal grounds and dropped us where we could take a bus to the terminal. The first bus flew past us, and the second one too. The third stopped, and the driver sort of rudely took our luggage inside the bus bin. We finally arrived at the pier, and from then on all was luxury as expected. Lesson learned...budget your transportation well!!
CruisetheCs Posted January 1, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2022 A limo (really a normal sized car) worked very well for us--ready and waiting when we got off the ship. The limo driver was knowledgeable and friendly so we used him for some other trips including our final departure from Rome to the airport. Because we had a lot of unused onboard credit, we let Regent make the arrangements during the cruise. As I recall the price ended up being about twice the cost that it would have been if we had booked a limo prior to the cruise either online or through our travel agent. Regent onboard staff seemed surprised by the pricing too. They contacted "Miami", but corporate wouldn't budge on the pricing. Best to make your arrangements before you leave. gcorgain Posted January 1, 2022 #10 Share Posted January 1, 2022 If you are going to book private I can add to the suggestions for Rome in Limo. I have used them three times, and all were great.
