select or above for the Captain’s Club event

I am Elite but my sister is sharing the cabin on this cruise. Can she accompany me to the breakfast and Captain's Club Event?

As far as the free internet package, what are you able to do.

-assume get on cruise critic and do your updates! Which would mean you can surf the internet?

I guess I’m not sure what else you need to do?  If anyone knows, would it be safe to pay online bills, or not secure enough?

I assume no Wi-Fi type calling!

thank you again for this, I think I may need to give some updates on the 14 Jan 22 silhouette sailing. So very interested on any Covid outbreaks. We almost cancelled, but hoping the lower passenger numbers makes a difference. Really hoping we don’t become Sick and have our friends and family say “told you so”!

stay safe and look forward to future posts.

I have the stream Internet package not the surf package so I don’t think I can answer any questions about the surf and what you can or can’t do

@jfpt89a my wife and I were on the Silhouette in early December.  We both had the included Surf package.  But I'd read on here that you couldn't use it to read or post to Cruise Critic as well as other things you couldn't access (including no WiFi calling). So I upgraded my package to Stream.   I had no issues accessing or posting to Cruise Critic with it, and WiFi calling worked.  Actual streaming didn't really work well (and others have reported the same).

I did a test with my wife's Surf package, and I could NOT even read Cruise Critic with it, let alone post to it. My wife was able to do general internet surfing, check mail, read newspapers.

As for paying bills:  personally, I would never do any financial transactions on any insecure/public WiFi.  YMMV.

Apologies but I don't know, since we didn't try this.  But since iMessage works on WiFi, I would hope you can do that with Surf.  I'm sure there are folks who can answer this question for sure.  I also think there's a way you can text each other thru the Celebrity app, but I've read the downside to that is that there's no signal or alert when you have a new message, so you'd have to keep checking your phones.

Comment 12 on the following thread says they could not FaceTime with the included Surf package;

Because this mask requirement had not been announced ahead of time, and no one found out about it until they got the letter on the ship, there was absolutely no time to choose what kind of mask to bring. The ship provided cloth Celebrity masks for each passenger and that is what most people are wearing.

And since omicron is not the only variant that is out there, most passengers simply wear whatever mask they have, and try to stay away from other people Tl

Thanks for your helpful insights.

I have a couple of questions but they maybe to early.

1) We are on the April TA and are planning a Slot Pull. Such events were banned during the summer UK cruises but it was hoped they would be allowed from January. Please would you check with the casino host - if it's still the lady from Australia please tell her Geoff and the boss (Anita) says hello.

2) Hads the Cruise Critic "Meet and Mingle" been reintroduced, again these events were all suspended until the New Year.

Many thanks, enjoy the cruise. Geoff

Heard just now that the casino is closed on the Silouette due to a small outbreak. They said they think the casino is a possible site of infection. Can you confirm what’s going on. We are scheduled to depart 1/14.

Casino staff said it is too soon to know what will happen for your trans Atlantic. I wasn’t able to meet with the casino host but I talked to other staff members.

There was no meet and mingle on this cruise

I’m sorry, dont mean to be difficult but how do i find #32 in this thread.

Scroll up to the earlier posts.

But I can tell you that the casino was not closed tonight. It opened for slot play at 4 PM and for table play at 7:30 PM.

I believe that on the last cruise one of the casinos staff members tested positive, which through others into quarantine for being close contacts. So the casino is understaffed right now and could not be open all day long for today and tomorrow’s sea days as would be the usual pattern.

The daily planner for tomorrow shows that it will open at four for both slots and table games

Are the shows still happening on board?

It appears now that there will be no production shows, only guest entertainers. The app is a constantly changing source of information however so anything is possible in the coming days. I will try to find out how things went on the previous cruise and if they had any production shows or not, since that might give a clue as to what we can expect going forward.

Casino opened at 4 pm today.  Apparently lack of staff.  Assuming it was Covid outbreak associated with casino crew on previously sailing.  No announcements regarding Covid.  No news, good news so they say.

It includes the Solarium.  You are indoors.

Most of the time yes.  The connection speed depends on both the location of the ship and the number of users.  With most passengers having free internet, even the surf package can be too slow to use FaceTime.

Someone on the Celebrity Cruises Captains Club page posted from the Reflection earlier (left FLL on the 2nd) and reported that St Kitts and Grenada were just cancelled on their cruise and replaced with St Marteen and Barbados. Also yesterday’s port of St Croix was replaced with a stop in the Bahamas on Monday.

For what it’s worth I’m on Edge right now using the included/surf package and can use Cruise Critic just fine. TikTok works but not youtube/other video as expected. I also cannot make voip calls with WhatsApp or Signal. No complaints though!
