Shuttle buses

From the new cruise terminal in Lisbon it is a lovely flat walk to the city gate and then pedestrianised area of the city. The shuttle bus takes you to the very top of the city centre and a further walk down to the city gate than if you walked from the ship into city centre and pedestrianised area.

Absolutely! No need for shuttle!

I agree you can walk into the centre of Lisbon from the ship, but for wheelchair users or those with walking difficulties, the shuttle does enable you to be dropped off in the centre and then stroll down through the centre, have a coffee or light lunch in a sidewalk cafe, and then a leisurely stroll back to the ship.

I have to say that I hadn’t really appreciated until recently how difficult it can be to do everyday stuff when your mobility is limited. I might have breezily stated ‘no shuttle necessary’ a few years ago, but my parents’ mobility has really taken a turn for the worse over the past two years. It’s painful to see, and means that we have to plan before taking them anywhere. Yes, they have a blue badge, but it can still be incredibly challenging. John and Selbourne have additional challenges, so I really sympathise. I never saw this with my own grandparents who were very sprightly to the end (grandfather was nearly 95 when he passed away).
