Rare mking8288 Posted May 8, 2022 Author #26 Share Posted May 8, 2022 A quick tour of our suite ... it has an umbrella, might be handy later this week. Bedside lamp has an USB charging port. Jerry is the CD. Brian is our room steward, just stopped by after bringing our checked luggage. Asked for an extra pair of slippers, bath robes already in the closet. Refrigerator is a little larger but the mini safe is smaller than expected (vs. *Away ships)
Rare mking8288 Posted May 8, 2022 Author #27 Share Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) Making good use of the 110v outlet with a triple adapter, ul-listed plus a 220 to 110v adapter plug (not a converter) Sailaway party on pool deck at 4:15 pm - sailing on time. Welcome onboard show tonight in the Joy Theater - just one show. WiFi is a little better than the Getaway, not by much but usable. Lunch at The Local, food was good but service chaotic with the rush. Stopped at Joy Theater to check in for our Muster drill station. Will find out whether shows are on or not ... Upgraded to unlimited basic WiFi, $110 for the 7 nights, credited $100 for my 150 free minutes. Not stopping at Norfolk, might as well get this to stay connected. Cisco WiFi router right in our living room, nice - that should do it. Patrick Berido is the concierge Henry, thanks so much for doing this again. We who are at home very much appreciate it. Patrick is our very favorite concierge and we sailed with him many times on the Breakaway, Gem and Escape. Please tell him Victor and Nancy Eichorn from NY say hello. We will be on the Joy for B2B on 9/1 and 9/6. I wonder if he knows if he will be on then. Maybe you could ask. Thank you again.
Rare mking8288 Posted May 8, 2022 Author #29 Share Posted May 8, 2022 We are underway, sailing down the Hudson River now. Captain explained that we are skipping Norfolk due to weather, mainly due to strong wind - 2 sea days are fine. Boogie time on the pool deck. NYFD Fireboat doing a salute as we sail.

CruisinMaterial Posted May 8, 2022 #33 Share Posted May 8, 2022 Have a wonderful cruise! Looking forward to entertainment details and what's on. Sorry you had to miss Norfolk but hopefully it will be smooth sailing on the way down and sunny! This low pressure area is really bumming out the whole East Coast! Rare PistolPete13 Posted May 8, 2022 #34 Share Posted May 8, 2022 I'm going to enjoy following you this week and hope you have a great time! Did you see me on the Starrett-Lehigh building balcony waving back at you? Couldn't make it to my usual Staten Island Fort Wadsworth location so my office balcony will have to do! Nice to see that fire boat running the water cannons. I was hoping it would do it closer by my location at 26th St. 2

Rare PistolPete13 Posted May 9, 2022 #37 Share Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) The portion sizes look to be about the same as what I found on my last cruise on the Bliss from NYC in the "before" times of early 2020. I'm a small guy at 145 lbs but can eat and ended up ordering 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts for dinner during my 14 day cruise. The waiters and I had a good laugh each evening. Good thing they didn't know I went to the buffet later to wrap things up! Edited May 9, 2022 by PistolPete13 grammar 1
Rare mking8288 Posted May 9, 2022 Author #38 Share Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) Here's Day 2's Freestyle Dailies for a Sea Day. Guess who's playing in the atrium - the duet, Arvin & Emily ... I remember them when they're on the Gem. Stop by the CruiseNext Desk for a gift - $50 NR OBC in lieu of BTS tour, Dine w Officers & Wine Tasting ... attributed to Covid risk & exposure to officers & crew. Welcome Back Latitude Reception is on, Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm. Time to patrol the ship & see what's happening, the ladies disappeared after dinner. Later when I setup my notebook PC and Chromebook on my thoughts & notes, not easy w fat fingers on a smartphone. The public area has a different & clean feel to it, we like it. Or, drop a comment to the GM - Ricardo. Edited May 9, 2022 by mking8288 4

Don’t know if anyone is a Beatles fan but the Beatles Revolution shows were all great. It is unfortunate that it is held in the Cavern - much too small. Husband and I actually left part way through one show because we were feeling uncomfortable with the amount of people and singing in there (still worry about COVID). Weather in Bermuda was fabulous! Weather yesterday was awful from mid afternoon till mid night. Many people motion sick including us. First time that ever happened. Elements was cancelled last night. Footloose was great. Cagneys and LeBistro were great. The Local was “okay”. No Officers at the Meet and Great in the District Brewhouse. They left a list with their phone numbers.

Rare mking8288 Posted May 9, 2022 Author #41 Share Posted May 9, 2022 Here's the written announcement from Capt Hammering about weather & Norfolk. NCL tours booked will be automatically refunded, no words about any port taxes-fees-charges for no stopping there. Sea state with large waves, wave height at 11.5 ft. now, wind diagonal across the sides, on a southeast 119 deg course heading doing 11.6 kt. - 600 nm to Bermuda. PPV movies in the suites are free, a selection of 20 to choose from.
Rare JIMESOPUS Posted May 9, 2022 #42 Share Posted May 9, 2022 @mking8288 The Getaway April 17 cruise skipped Norfolk, didn't get the port fees back, someone mention cruise insurance but I didn't follow thru. Also we did have the officers meal, at the M&G officers did attend and the captain reception no one was wearing a mask, could this be a ship by ship decision? Some trip insurance policies, including Travel Guard Preferred, have a benefit for “missed ports” due to inclement weather. When the Breakaway could not dock in Bermuda for two of our three scheduled days there in late October because of the high winds, Travel Guard paid my wife and me the maximum $250pp benefit, upon submission of our claim with NCL’s letter to all guests explaining why we could not dock. No proof of monetary loss was needed. Folks who miss ports should check their policies to see what coverage they may have. We’ve used Travel Guard for years, but this was a relatively new benefit for them.

We don't have much need for Concierge but the three little requests we had were swiftly solved.
dexddd Posted May 9, 2022 #45 Share Posted May 9, 2022 MKing, have a great trip. You are brave taking SIL in room. When they have barf bags out you know things going to be rough. That Captain sounds familiar, think we sailed with him.

Rare mking8288 Posted May 9, 2022 Author #49 Share Posted May 9, 2022 (edited) Good morning all, we decided to stay in our suite, ordered hot breakfast while sipping Expresso & watching the navigational channel. Live shipcam not working but that virtual balcony view ... oooh. Looks like another 24 hours from Windy's forecast.
