Never been the case for us.  We do late seating, and mention to the waiters what time our evening show begins.  We're there in plenty of time (after changing clothes enroute).

but if you are dining at 8 pm, you will still miss the shows at 8:15 and 8:30 and, maybe, even a 9 pm show.

P.S. We had a 6:30 reservation for MTD this time and were usually seated by 6:30. But the service was very slow, and we missed shows at 7, 7:15 and 7:30.

Sounds like you're better off staying home. I sat in the theater, hung out in a huge group in the pool, ate in crowded restaurants on land and didn't stress about it once. If you are this uncomfortable still, maybe you should wait it out a little longer until you feel better about it.

Illness-Unlike others have reported, I didn't hear coughing on our ship at all.  No one looked or acted sick.   I have a sore throat tonight and will test myself tomorrow just in case.

and there we have it - I have covid. Just tested and it's positive. Got it on the cruise. Haven't gotten it in 2.5 years - not even once. Wore a mask on the cruise at all times, and got covid because nobody else was wearing one and there were a lot of sick people.

I got covid back in December on an airplane. Everyone wearing masks and superior air filtration. Even put me in the hospital for a week on oxygen. You can't hide from it forever, you can only hope that your symptoms are mild. I wish you a quick recovery and that you can feel more comfortable moving around when you are back on your feet.

Hope it's a short bout with it, and no long term effects.

You got it because others were not masking or because you decided to go on a cruise? Nah, it has to be someone else's fault.

I’m just curious…did you really think you would make a 7 or 7:15 show, with a 6:30 dining reservation?

I am not sure why people are incapable of understanding the idea of probability.  Was the likelihood that OP would catch COVID reduced if everyone masked up on the cruise?  Yes.

Was OP's going on a cruise necessary to catch COVID as they did?  Yes.  Was it sufficient?  No.  Would different actions by other cruises have reduced the possibility of transmission on board generally?  Yes.

Good grief.  OP, I hope you recover.

of course not. I simply gave an example of the show times which we would be unable to make with a 6:30 seating. Although, on one of the nights we actually made it to a 7:30 showing (but only because we showed up at the MDR closer to 6 than 6:30).

And the idea of assuming the risk?

We always figure 1 hr or so for dinner in MDR.   If in a hurry for a show then go to WJ.

Hope you have a quick recovery.

But remember you cannot say you had mask on all the time, you did eat and drink inside.  Or could have caught on an island.

We are talking about actual probability and causation, not legal assumption:

"Wore a mask on the cruise at all times, and got covid because nobody else was wearing one and there were a lot of sick people."

we wore masks in the taxis (drivers didn't cough) and stayed away from the other people on the islands, so chances are - it was on the ship. Plus, the last port day was on Thursday, and with the current variant people usually become symptomatic in a couple of days, or so I've read. I am thinking - most likely the Mamma Mia performance, because it was 2.5 hours long and a lot of people were coughing around us. We sat in the last row during all of the theater and ice shows. Who knows... However, I was a bit shocked that the OceanAria captain called for the crowd to yell loudly and repeatedly. Not the brightest idea, even though it was outside. If I had known he was going to do that, we would have sat in the last row as well.

Basically, we took all of the possible precautions, but they weren't enough, because nobody else was taking the same precautions. And with the current variant being very contagious - it was pretty much a given. May have as well not taken any precautions and ended up with covid much sooner - during the cruise instead of becoming symptomatic the day after disembarkation.

Yes, we usually figure at least an hour in MDR - in our experience one hour is super speedy, but we are fine with 1.5 hours or more, especially for a larger party.

I suspect a lot of folks are spreading it without coughing. Just normal breathing.   I think we all have high sensitivity to coughing being Covid, but is it?

Obviously I have no idea and no one else does either.  But a lot of folks drink a lot on cruises.  This often leads to congestion, a lot of mouth breathing, dry mouth, etc. at night which leads to coughing for many folks.  Also, folks who spend a lot of time in the casino inhaling smoke are likely to cough too.  The ocean air also can cause congestion for some.

So I do wonder how much of this is just normal for cruises and we forget it used to be normal.  I too heard a lot of coughing on my recent Allure cruise and got hacked on pretty good in a crowded elevator.  But I didn’t get Covid and never wore a mask.

Hope your case is a light one and quick.

well, since I am coughing galore at the moment, I am inclined to believe that it is definitely one of the symptoms. Some people may be asymptomatic, we all know that, and can still spread the infection.

It is known (c). 🙂

true, but there was nowhere near as much coughing and sneezing on Harmony in November, and we felt much-much safer because the majority of people wore masks, which is what made me book a May cruise, as I've mentioned above. Who knew that the situation would be completely different by now... I sure hope it improves by November since that's when our next cruise is. 🙂

No doubt coughing is a symptom.  Just saying coughing is a symptom of a ton of things.  Also, it doesn’t take coughing to spread it.  Just anyones breath.  So in a theater, the person directly next to you breathing normally can just as easily pass it on (if you sit next to them all show) with a normal exhale if they are Covid positive.  It’s a crap shoot either way IMO.

Regardless.  You have it now, so maybe consider cruising soon after you recover if you can.  Why wait until November when your immunity will be at its peak in a few weeks.  You could cruise later

this summer knowing it would be highly unlikely you get Covid no matter your exposure.

I just spent the last 3/4 weeks coughing my lungs out.  Took 3 covid tests 4 days apart each,  all negative.  But anyone encountering me would certainly think I had covid.  I actually had covid 12/20 and was nowhere near as sick!
Hope you feel better soon.

Were those rapid tests or the pcr (2 day lab) ones?

DS will be back in school later this summer, so we can only cruise during school breaks and only about a couple of times a year. Plus, it gets a bit more hurricane-y closer to August in the Caribbean (and that's where we like to cruise). At least we had a fantastic weather on this sailing and didn't even get affected by the tropical storm on the way back.

P.S. And I am still hoping that DS will not get it. He tested negative yesterday, and if all goes well - I hope to keep him that way.
