Cruising Uphill?

We have just received notification of an itinerary change to our 5 Night Tasmania Cruise.

Historic Port Arthur, a draw card for many which we should have visited for 8 hours has been dropped and our time in Hobart (overnight) has been cut from 22 hours to 20 hours. So total port time (including arrival and departure processes) has been cut from 30 hours to 20 hours.

It seems that cruising "uphill" from Hobart back to Sydney will take 13 hours longer than the cruise "down" from Sydney to Hobart. 🙄

Barnacle encrusted hull??

A lovely cruise for those who like sea days, but not so appealing now to those who booked for the 8 hours at Port Arthur.

Port Arthur has a very difficult access subject to tides.  I agree with you.  FWIW a cruise to Tasmania is a joke.  Fly to Hobart or Devonport and rent a car.  About a week to make a wonderful circle.  Say hello to the Tasmanian Devils near Bicheno if you do.

Cruising uphill was written as a joke.

For anyone unfamiliar with the geography of Australia :

Australia is below the equator.

The cruise goes "down" from the middle of the east coast of Australia to the south of the southern state and back "up" in a northerly direction.

Further to my original post :

The revised itinerary says we depart Hobart at 5.00AM

BUT

The written words below the daily itinerary read :
• Hobart, Tasmania is now on day 3, from 9:00 AM to day 4, to 5:00 PM

So who knows which is correct!

For anyone interested to know a little more :

https://portarthur.org.au/tours/

The drive from port to Port Arthur is around 90 minutes each way.

Often when they make a change and for that fact when you have a short leg they sail and a much slower speed.   Example would be from Ensanada  to San Diego   is a slow overnight and at times we were just sitting waiting to end the cruise.

The number of sea days didn’t change.

Your itinerary appears to be correct, unlike ours which shows :

Sun    Hobart, Tasmania    Arrive 9AM

Mon    Hobart, Tasmania    Depart 5AM

What a pity the same could not have been sent to cruisers in all parts of the world!

As I noted in post#6 :

The written words below the daily itinerary read :

Wonderful suggestion! Many years ago, we did a 3 week stint in OZ, including several days on Tasmania. Honestly, Taz was a highlight, for sure. LOVED Bicheno and the seeing the little "devils."  We also did a penguin watch in Bicheno. Port Arthur was interesting, but I'm not a big "history" buff. Oh, and one other highlight ... the Tahune Airwalk outside of Hobart ... ah-mazing!
