chrisnatca Posted July 8, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2022 I’m looking for first hand knowledge. Do Carnival ships carry Paxlovid? Hopefully someone here can confirm that they’ve gotten the medication on board.
ItsADryHumor Posted July 8, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2022 Seeing as Paxlovid is only recommended for certain demographics, probably not. Could you get an rx from your doctor if you were concerned about access?

I may be wrong, but I think you can only get a prescription for Paxlovid if you have tested positive for Covid.

And the cruise ships have nothing in common with the FDA. It would require paxlovid to be approved in the flag state, not the US.
mdsgu Posted July 9, 2022 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2022 Paxlovid is not for prophylaxis. You need to actually test positive for COVID and then start it as soon as possible (within 5 days). 3
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted July 10, 2022 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2022 (edited) A couple of months ago, a person on a Carnival Corporation (Princess) ship was offered a Paxlovid treatment onboard. Here's their story: I haven't heard of anyone else posting about receiving such an option before or after this, so take from that what you will. Keksie Posted July 10, 2022 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2022 I really don't see the problem with a ship having Paxlovid available for the Dr. to prescribe if they felt it was necessary. If Pharmacists can prescribe Paxlovid then a ship's Dr. should be able to.

Onboard, guests would pay.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 10, 2022 #11 Share Posted July 10, 2022 I think you still have to be quarantined if testing positive and given Paxlovid. Similar to vaccines, the drug reduces the severity of the virus but may help shorten the contagious time. Not for everybody with COVID.

Paxlovid would eat up the budget at $550 per pack.
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted July 12, 2022 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2022 UPDATE: Another poster announced that they were offered Paxlovid onboard another Princess ship (Majestic this time). Here's the thread:
TheSeagoer Posted July 18, 2022 #14 Share Posted July 18, 2022 That drug has many serious interactions with other meds. It may also cause a relapse
