gcorgain Posted July 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2022 Any idea which hotels Regent typically uses in Capetown for the pre cruise hotel night?
crickette Posted July 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2022 A few years ago it was the Westin. The hotel was good but crowded with all the Regent guests.
GOARMY Posted July 30, 2022 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2022 Based on our last visit (late 2015), Regent utilized two hotels in the downtown area. Stayed in one of them--name not remembered--for one night prior to beginning a Regent-sponsored three-day Safari experience at Camp Figtree--a British-themed Lodge above Addo Elephant National Reserve and an hour's frenetic van drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport. Wonderful experience. But, as usual, I digress. Point being: Our TA strongly recommended an earlier arrival at Cape Town, partly to take care of Jet Lag--which was considerable, as our air component was SEATAC on Delta, via Amsterdam (nice lay-over spent in a Lounge); then onward via KLM to Cape Town for a very late night arrival. And, to relax and enjoy the local sites on our own while lodging at: Victoria and Albert Hotel (V&A). Location was in upscale Pierside/Warf area removed from downtown Cape Town. About four miles removed. TA arranged a three-day early arrival; then, that lodging. Great experience. A V&A Limo met us at the Airport. V&A, it turned out, was within easy walking distance of where Mariner was berthed prior to our boarding many-days later for a TA to Rio. Well, we did not have to take that embarkation walk; as our happy Safari group of five couples was transported directly from the Cape Town Airport upon completion of the Safari directly to Mariner. Recommendation: If your circumstances permit--consider arrival at Cape Town at-least three days prior to boarding, whether or not your itinerary includes a pre-cruise Safari or Wine Tasting experience. Should that be the case, then arrive, as we did, about six days before actually getting on a Regent ship. Our V&A Concierge arranged several "private" tours for us to local sites. Gracious service, with a smile. On one occasion when I was on a really-private walking trip in the area, became somewhat disoriented as to where I was. Went up to a Police Officer for assistance. This gentleman, in a crisp manner, realized my situation. He waved to his associate. I was given a personally-guided walking "tour" escort back to the V&A. Really professional, and appreciated. Just contributed to our overall positive experience for those days prior to being transported (in a V&A Limo) to Regent's downtown hotel to join our future Safari/cruise associates. Something to consider. V&A ambience was 5+level, to include Champagne at breakfast (included in the rate). At that time, the US Dollar had a very favorable exchange rate to local currency. Probably still does. Gourmet meals onsite; although we ate most dinners in a variety of delightful restaurants in the immediate area. Costs for all these "extras" were about 1/3rd of what one would expect to pay at an equivalent NYC or Miami location for equivalent experiences. Our plans to reprise this itinerary were frustrated due to COVID. Hope for another opportunity in 2024 or 2025. GOARMY!
Brownie54 Posted July 30, 2022 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2022 A gentle correction. The hotel you mentioned is the Victoria and Alfred Hotel (not Albert). We stayed there in 2018 prior to our Cape Town to Rio cruise on Navigator. Loved it!

gcorgain Posted July 30, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted July 30, 2022 Thanks for the great advice. I think we will stay in the V&A for a couple of nights pre 6 safari nights. Then we will board the Voyager for a similar TA to Rio. Greg
flossie009 Posted July 30, 2022 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2022 We stayed at the Westin in Cape Town during a 3 night post-cruise with Regent in December 2018. Our room was comfortable & well appointed. Breakfast each day was excellent. The Westin is near the V&A Waterfront which, as others have said, is a very picturesque (& safe) part of Cape Town with many good shops and restaurants. Carol From California Posted July 30, 2022 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2022 The pre-cruise Cape Town hotels that Regent used in 2018 were Southern Sun the Cullinan and the Westin. We got the Southern Sun and it was a dump. We paid for an extra couple of nights there so we could spend time in Cape Town. Not a great experience. The Westin must have been the better one. Boatmans Lady Posted August 1, 2022 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2022 (edited) On Regents website the Hotel for the pre-cruise Winelands and Wildlife is listed as The Southern Sun Cullinan or similar, so hope it has improved since 2018. We stayed at The Westin in Rome and it was fine. Edited August 1, 2022 by Boatmans Lady Sp

gcorgain Posted August 12, 2022 Author #16 Share Posted August 12, 2022 Answering my own question, we have been assigned the Table Bay hotel which looks very nice and appears to be in a great location.

You won’t be disappointed, the location is fabulous. Outside the front door is the boardwalk, the side door is the harbour and ar the rear is an escalator taking you up into a lovely shopping mall. Have a great time. Regards
