Any rooms completely free of machine noise?

Probably doesn't exist, but just in case I'll ask anyways.

Are there any rooms, maybe on the larger cruise ships, that are completely free of machine noise/vibration?

I did a little research. Basically avoid elevators, having a room too low could expose you engine noise/vibration, noise from machines used by the crew, avoid near elevators or other machine rooms, avoid directly below loud common area parts of the cruise (casino, performances, etc).

So basically, I'm thinking the quietest room would have to be a lower cabin, but not too low that you get engine noise/vibration and not too to get noise from common areas.

I can handle people talking in the hallway walking by, but just machine nose and vibration I cannot. If someone goes by in a scooter once in awhile that's fine I'll just put earmuffs on. But if it's continuous, forget it.

You aren’t close to the engines anywhere.  But aft cabins can suffer from vibration from the thrusters when docking.  Far forward and low can have thruster noise, and anchor noise.  If you have decks above and below you, you should have less noise.  Most noise from entertainment ends by 11pm.  No cabin is absolutely silent.  There is always noise from the vents, sort of like white noise.  EM

Good advice from Essiesmom!  I also avoid those cabins that are potentially near the parts of the ship where the ducts leading to the funnels from the engine room are located.  Studying the ship's deck plans will show blank spaces aft of the middle of the ship where these ducts usually are.  I have, on some ships, noticed a bit more noise walking along the corridor in those areas.  Also, sometimes, that part of the corridor seems to be a bit warmer than the part forward and aft of that area.

At first I laughed at your question, but then I remembered one night on forward Main deck on the Nieuw Amsterdam -- after the BBKing performance had finished -- that I actually got up from bed to look out the window because it was so quiet I thought perhaps the ship had stopped moving!

That may have just been quiet in comparison with the bass vibration of the Blues performance on the deck above us!

The tried-and-true advice is pick your cabin on a deck with rooms above and below it. Some say a room across from it as well -- because the blank space on a deckplan could be anything. I don't think of elevators as noisy EXCEPT the dinging when the doors open.

Pick a room or two and post back here with the ship and deck or cabin and you are more likely to find someone who has been in the general area.

We've been on many cruises.  Very difficult to find a cabin with no noise.  I'm a super light sleeper and once I'm awake I find it very difficult to get back to sleep.  I sleep with earbuds in with a constant rain shower sound.  Works great for me.  You could maybe try something like this at home and see if it could work for you.  A speaker with sound doesn't work for me as I can also hear every little sound outside the cabin.
