M class...good and bad??

Danno

Recommended Posts

After a great Century cruise it is becoming apparent that I may have to go to the M class ships to get an intinerary that I like.

For those who have sailed all the X classes (sorry but I would like comparisons)...thoughts on the M class??

We have sailed all the classes and always thought our loyalty was with the C-class ships, preferring the smaller, more intimate size, however after sailing on 2 M-Class ships we now find that we miss the Specialty Restaurant and the availability of more space to just hang out and read or people watch. Surprisingly they really don't appear to have more people on them, as the floor plans are excellent.

I think we also got spoiled by having Aft cabins both times on M-Class, the last time being a corner FV which has probably spoiled us forever.

We sail next Wed. on the Galaxy out of Galveston and are now wondering how we'll manage in a normal, smaller cabin with a small veranda for that length of time.

Try it, I don't think you'd regret it at all. We were forced into it to get the itineraries we wanted. Sailed Millennium in the Med, and last May, the Constellation to the Baltic/Russia.

Our loyalty seems to be really fluctuating now.

Anything else specifically that you want to know, just ask.

Hi Dan, ahhhh...making that choice to try an M-Class.

You know I sailed Century and Mercury before I tried an M class.

My first one was Constellation. And to be totally honest I had felt

the same way you do.

I didn't know if I even wanted to try one of the larger ships. I LOVE

the C-Class and was really concerned that it would be too big...too

much.....too everything.

Well, I also LOVE the M class~such a problem....I love the

ships;)

When I arrived on board of course I could see the differences...first

it is a bigger ship.

But...I didn't feel swallowed up and it didn't seem SO BIG.

They do offer other things..the Aqua Spa cafe is lovely and the

Specialty Restaurants are wonderful too. I won't kid you, I really

like them.

But my fears were put to rest and I felt totally comfortable on

both Summit and Connie.

The service was just as wonderful...staff and crew just as warm.

Now, I have just returned home from my first time on Zenith so

I have done all 3 sizes. She is totally opposite of the M Class and

I loved her too.....so much so I am going in April again!

And if you ask would I sail each class again..I would do any of them

without any hesitation!

Hope this helps you a bit.:)

Have sailed all three classes of X ships - in fact, have sailed all X ships (except Millenium) at least once and most several times. We actually prefer the M-class ships (Constellation, three times [fourth time, end of this month]; Infinity, three times; Summit, once). Some pluses on the M-class, other than the fact that these ships are newer and larger, include the indoor pool area, spa cafe, specialty restaurant, abundance of balconies, larger public areas and IMHO, more interesting itineraries.

Having sailed on all classes I prefer the C class. There are some advantages to the M class as already mentioned and I have also had the corner FV on the Millie and it was amazing. The Horizon and Zenith never bothered me either and often by the end of the week you couldn't go anywhere without saying hello to a new friend. For me the bigger ships are too big and the C class gives you everything you need and still maintains some level of sanity with amount of people.

Being the trooper that I am I somehow always find a way to adapt to the circumstances I am forced into by sailing on the different size ships. :D I just don't know how I do it sometimes!

If you wan't a balcony for less money, M-Class is the only way to go. That being said I feel the food and service is a touch better on C-Class. At least that was my experience on the Galaxy. Our 2 cruises on the Galaxy were our fovorite X cruises.

We have done both and I agree with Lois. I really think the plusses and minuses balance each other out. I think the m class have better Martini bars...Much prettier and a lot more room. The dining rooms are pretty much the same but the mclass does have the specialty restaurant. However the c class have the extra club I think it is called the savoy on the galaxy. there is no corresponding club on the m class. Pool decks are equal. I do like the outdoor bar on the back of the m class ships better. Seem a little better laid out and nicer atmosphere. the same great service and all the little extras are equal on both classes. if you like Celebrity I don't think you can go wrong!

We have been on Century, then Millenium and Summit, and then Century again. The M-class ship has the edge on the C-class, we think. There are 2 deep pools on Century, but my wife cannot swim; there is one deep pool on the M-class and one 3-4ft. deep. Non-swimmwers can easily manage this one; so both of us can go in the pool together.

Thelassotherapy pool on Century is an extra charge. On M-class,it is available to all (for those over 18, thank God), and is in its own glass-roofed area, with a couple of hot tubs, and its own spa-type lunch area, and teak loungers.

The specialty restaurant on M-class is really great and not to be missed. None on C-class.

We think the decor of the theatre on Century is more refined looking than M-class, although the latter has more "gadgetry" available for performances. I think that there is a lot more artwork all over the M-class than the C-class.

There are more shops on the M-class.

The style and layout of the pool deck area with the loungers is very similar, as is the Rendez-vous Lounge, the theatre, the bar locations, the aft deck and the dining room.

There may be a difference of 10, 00 tons or so, but there are not that many more passengers. (I think C-class has abaout 1850 and M-class, about 2100.???) One feels no more crowded than the other.

Try it. You will like it.

I agree with Spearmint's observations. Have sailed, Galaxy, Millennium and Horizon (several times) and will be on the Mercury to Alaska next summer. Clearly loved them all for different reasons. The M wins by a bit because I LOVE the Thallassotherapy pool area, spa cuisine and the quiet ambiance of the area. We actually liked the Martini bar best on the Galaxy...a great location for before dinner and wonderful wait staff. Loved the library on the Millie and were so sorry to hear that they just demolished it! The Olympic restaurant was to die for. Since it was my birthday we went all out and had the dinner that included small glasses of matched wine with each course. Heavenly and the best $$ we spent on the ship. In other words, you can't go wrong, but I do suggest you give the M class a try.

Dan, first of all I want to say it was a pleasure meeting you in our CrCr get together. This was our first cruise on Century but we have sailed on Galaxy twice and on all of the M class ships. We found we actually preferred the M class ships due to their amenities over the Century class ships. So I would highly recommend you consider a cruise on one of the M class ships. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.

Danno, I have sailed on most of the Celebrity ships. I don't think the size of the M class ships are that big. The T pool on Century was just fantastic but on M ships it is just like a big indoor pool. It is free on M class but so worth the money on Century. The Martini bar is larger on M and it does have many more balconies. The food in the Aqua Spa area is so good. In fact I thought it was the best on the ship. The service is the same on both type of ships. The cova cafe is a great place to get away on some quiet afternoons. The pastry there was out of this world. I agree that 4 or 5 day cruises are just not our cup of tea, but don't count the M Class ships off your list. I think you will love them almost as much. You always love the first ship you have gone on. Our first Celebrity ship was Mercury and it will always hold a special place in our heart. Pat

We sailed Century twice, then Infinity, then Mercury, then Millennium, then Mercury again. Booked on Galaxy next because we loooooooove the C-class best of all. Differences that matter to me:

--C class T-pool; that free warm indoor barely-jetted pool on M-class is noooo comparison

--More teak decks on C class

--More public areas aft on C class (some of my favorite places to just hang out and sea-watch)

One thing I like better about M-class: The Grand Foyer, bigger and more elegant.

Only X ships we haven't sailed yet are Summit and Xpedition. I've gotta say, I've loved every one of them! I wondered if maybe Millennium class would be TOO big, but it's manageably big. The spa pool is really a nice plus, and the specialty diningroom is a wonderful option, too. Balconies all over the place, and the prices for one are better than prices for balconies on Century class. Of course, balconies on Zenith are nonexistant. One thing Millennium class ships don't have that I really miss is the aft nightclub, like the Crystal room, the Savoy nightclub, Pavillion nightclub, rainbow room. Ultimately, though, all of Celebrity's ships have incredible staffs that provide such wonderful service, and the bigger, newer ships are no exception.

Why don't you try one of the Millennium class ships, Danno? I double-dog dare you!

We have sailed all 3 non-Xpedition classes. We found service/friendliness best on Horizon probably because of its smaller size. We liked the public areas (dining room, theater, foyer, cigar lounge, etc), decor, and overall ship size the best with Century and her sisters. We think the cabins (size, varied choices, balconies--esp aft!) are better on Millennium class (our kids liked the Fun Factory facilities better on M-class, too).

Well..I've sailed them all... and my vote is the C-class... Mercury specifcally.

Stateroom storage in standard M-class rooms is less than M&G, C having the best.

Cat 2c balcony cabins on M-class.. in most cases you cannot look straight down to the water because of the lifeboats.

On M-class the Martini and Champagne bars are directly on top of the Rendezvous lounge. When the band is playing in the Rendezvous, due to the opening in the ceiling, all the noise is heard in the Martini and Champagne bars.

There is one less lounge (the aft lounge on C-class) missing from the M-class, which results in extreme crowding in the other lounges. especially with full ships.

On M-Class the Martini, Champagne Bars and the Cova were fashioned out of

port and starboard "thoroughfares".

A good portion of space on the M-class which results in a seemingly higher passenger space ratio is not utilized by the average passenger as it is dedicated conference room space.

The flooring material in the forward lounge.. well if you are a serious ballroom dancer,it is murder on your feet.

I've sailed M-class with only 1250 onboard.. and 2392 onboard. 1250 was okay, but there were still slowpoke lines and shortages of lounge chairs. With 2392 onboard, it was intolerable.

I've not been impressed with the Speciality restaurants and I don't shop onboard.

Service has been better on H&Z and Century class as opposed to M-Class.

But Dan, most of us have enjoyed all our experiences:)

Look at your glass 1/2 full my friend:)

no, no...It is still my first choice...I always find it interesting how stats are toyed with. I did the ratio myself last night and was happy, now I know why.

I am just concerned about the sheer number of guests...I don't enjoy line-ups (who does) and the H&C class have been so good of late, I would miss the sense of space they bring...but WAY BETTER than 3000+ people on RCI

Our first cruise was Century and we loved it. But I'm sold on M Class ships. I adore the Aquaspa - peaceful, beautiful, great place to lounge and read, excellent light lunch. The pool is large so you don't feel your space invaded as much as on C class. I have never felt crowded and found the lines to be equal on both ships. The specialty restaurant is an experience we always do once each cruise. The Persian Garden in the spa is a great treat for those who like the spa experience. The casino seems larger and we enjoy spending our evenings in there. We also love the bar/disco at the back for a peaceful sunset or evening drink. It's generally surprisingly empty and the view is lovely.

I love the m-class for a lot of the same reasons others have stated. I like the spa cafe, and the martini bar and the specialty restaurant. I like the extra space to just roam around and find a quiet spot. I've been on Infinity twice, and it never seemed crowded to me. I like the main showroom. I could always find a decent seat.

I like all the different options for eating. I thought the food was better on Zenith, but I was on her for the Inaugural cruise which was a few years back, so I haven't been on her recently. The food on Infinity is still great. I like the size and look of the m-class ships. I love the aft cafe/bar on the m-class ships. The only negative I could think of is the problems they've had with the pod systems, and I haven't heard of any recent problems.

I forgot...I like the pool area, too, and the rounded pool bar. I like the large shopping area, too. The m-class just seems more elegant. Give the m-class ships a try, Danno! I think you'll really like them!
