Better side of the ship for British Isles cruise?

Is there a better side of the ship for your cabin, when doing a British Isles cruise leaving from Southhampton?  Are you able to see the coastline better on one side than the other?

I guess it depends on what way round the British Isles the ship goes. If it is Southampton, Dublin, Scotland, Le Havre, Southampton for example, i.e. clockwise then clearly a starboard cabin would be best as land will always be that side.

Anticlockwise then the port side would be best.

I’m hoping this is not too simplistic an answer, and I’m not trying to be clever, but I can only assume that is the information you are looking for.

Having said that, for a lot of the cruise you will be out of sight of land anyway I guess?

PS:  for what it’s worth my daughter and and son-in-law are just returning tomorrow from an Emerald Princess Round Britain cruise  which has been a fantastic success in all respects. (They are in an inside cabin though so that does not help in answering your question 😄😄)

PPS: I think I’m right in saying that most Round Britain cruises go anticlockwise heading to Dublin, Belfast and then on to Scotland etc. Perhaps someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

In all honesty,  most of the time you will be too far from land to see anything.

As a previous poster said you will be too far away from land most of the time to really make a difference.  But for us, and we will be on a British Isles cruise in 2 weeks - we have an aft facing balcony cabin - so we can see on either side 🙂

This is not true. We just returned from a British Isles cruise and enjoyed very scenic cruising from our balcony. We were often quite close to the coast, especially on departing and arriving into ports. We saw incredible scenery, castles, cathedrals, lighthouses along with some stunning sunrises and sunsets. We got fantastic views of the White Cliffs of Dover from our balcony on our sea day traveling from Edinburgh to Le Havre. 
 

I would recommend the Starboard side - we chose it as it is the land facing side most of the time. And bring good binoculars.

We were just on this same cruise and the starboard side of the ship and agree with this poster. We liked the cruise a lot. Beautiful shots of the Scottish bridges. I got some sunset ones of those too.

Yup. Also on this cruise in August.

Starboard side.

It did mean that you weren't ALWAYS on the side to view the port, but often you were. Neither side would ALWAYS give you the view of the port, but I think Starboard side was best.
