Cruise Director on Silhouette

Eddy Jenkins, who was brought up in Wales.

He did 4 Beyond the Podium lectures,”10 things you didn’t know about:”

1)Celebrity cruise destinations - we had been to 8/10

2) Pop Music- which featured Shirley Bassey & Tom Jones.

3) Art, which we didn’t attend, as we were on a ‘Behind the Scenes tour.’

4) Wales and for someone who was brought up in Wales, I learned a lot.

All were delivered from the centre of the stage, without reading a note, which I was impressed by, as an ex teacher.

Looks like he really packed them in!

I never cease to be intrigued by this question. In all my cruises over the last 20 years, I’ve never once wondered who the cruise director was on a particular sailing. What in the world am I missing?

We were on the Silhouette last December and had a gal for a cruise director.  I can't remember her name, it might be Angela, and her husband Dave was her Activities director/manager.  They were a hoot and I was hoping they were still on the Silhouette when we cruise soon.  In all of our 30+ cruises, we've had some great cruise directors and some not so great.

One our favourites particularly when he is  "supported" by Jayne Currie - that's Jayne with a Y and Currie with an I.

When a passenger asked Eddie if the job of a Cruise Director was hard his response was "Hard? being a Coal Miner is hard."

Totally agree - I know some passengers like her but not us. Mind you when she sings she can empty the theatre very quickly. Sorry in advance to any of her fan club ,😂😂

I’ve read that Sue is going to Constellation in February.

We have been cruising 30+ years and never wondered/cared who the CD was. And I thought it was just me that had zero interest in who the CD was on any of our sailings.

Same here. I always just assume they are making a Christmas stocking for whomever they are asking about.

I have zero interest in knowing in advance. Not like we can ask for a substitute. Same thing for captains. If they can get me from point a to b without hitting something, I’m good with that.

I don’t need to know in advance of the cruise who the CD is but

I am definitely on the side of those who think a good CD can

contribute significantly towards the enjoyment of a cruise. For

example, Alejandro (on Apex last Autumn) is a hoot. I am so glad
Argentina won the World Cup just for him. He likes mocking

English football and he has now got added ammunition (of a

friendly nature) when he is on stage.

One person’s opinon: Generally, people are so lovely on cruises, but I never understand why people need the Cruise Director, or for that matter, any officer, staff or crew member to pay attention to them or to have to listen to their every thought re the ship we are on, or re their previous cruise experiences. These employees deal with thousands of people over the course of a contract, have long work days with a million things to do. So if someone says “good morning”, maybe we need to respond with a polite, short reply and leave it that. …unless we are at a Captain’s Club cocktail party where they have a bit more time for a wee chat.

On my previous Celebrity cruises, the Cruise Directors have been Giuseppe Moschella (twice), Alejandro Tortorelli , Steve Gayda and Sue Denning.

Their styles are very different but they are all terrific, kind and talented.

It has never occurred to me to check who the Cruise Director,…

or other officers…are before I go on a cruise, but I will be delighted if any of the above CD’s are on any future cruise.

Not saying I am correct, and didn’t start out to write such a long commentary, but all I wish for everyone is that we stay well and have the privilege of doing many many more cruises and vacations. We who have done many cruises are so fortunate….gratitude is a good thing!

Yup Alejandro will be even more unbearable than usual about English football.😂😀😭. We love his humour.
