Observations From the Poop Deck Seashore October

I wasn't going to begin until boarding day, Saturday. Yesterday a poster on social media (FB) posted that her family and friends are on the Seashore in the Yacht Club confined to a YC cabin due to her husband's doctor diagnosed case of measles. This does not give us much time to run and get a shingles shot nor 'toy' with the possible effects of this vaccine on us. So in any event" being forewarned is forearmed". Will stay away from buffets and wash hands even more frequently than every ten minutes.

Measles is highly contagious but not related to,shingles.

Although both diseases produce a rash, measles and shingles are completely different and unrelated diseases. Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus .

Shingles - reactivated chicken pox virus

Most adults have had measles vaccine. MMR given during normal course of childhood vaccinations. (Measles, mumps and rubella)

Thanks. Will be bringing face masks and latex gloves just in case. Just do not have the 'guts' to ask poster her cabin number.

Your post prompted me to go back to the young ladies post and reread. Her husband has chicken pox, not measles. Sorry. Do not know if I am still better off not knowing..... would wash my hands every ten minutes just for good measure in any event.  It is just the shock of reading something like this days before we get on board.

I don't understand this. Was it the ship's doctor that diagnosed the man with chicken pox or his personal physician?

Excerpt from her post.

"Shingles as well but it’s not. It’s not isolated in patches. Most definitely all over body and face. Spots.. dr on board confirmed.

I’m glad we went to the dr."

That's not a good thing. Chicken pox is highly contagious.

I also don't understand. I don't know what I'm missing that I should be concerned about.

As I think I understand, a person on a ship that the OP isn't on but will embark soon, has chicken pox or something of that ilk. The passenger has been quarantined and presumably will disembark soon.

And?

How would you feel, personally, staying in a cabin that was just vacated by a quarantined passenger with chicken-pox?

I'm sure you'll be okay.  I don't think they were in Royal or Owner's Suites, since they said that they asked for a bigger room and none were available.

Thanks. I said the same thing to my DW. Now you know why we need so many towels. To cover the furniture after we spray it with lysol fabric spray.

With all respect but I don’t understand the conclusion you are trying to imply.

We live in a world of infectious diseases being part of our life.. we always have..

Chicken-pox, Measles, Shingles, Ebola, SARS-CoV-2, Monkey Pox, HIV, and many more.

We travel by plane, rental car, cruise ship and public transportation (metro, bus).

How would you feel, personally, staying in a cabin that was just vacated by a passenger with undiagnosed infectious disease ?

Question: When did you started wearing face mask and latex gloves ? Infectious diseases were always around (except SARS-CoV-2 since 2019).

I married Adriana Monk. She has been this way since I met her. OCD ? Best not to know in advance. Already called TA to find out if our insurance would cover "fear" of catching chicken pox/shingles. It does not cover such fears for canceling.

So you embark tomorrow? I'm really looking forward to your thread, I'm so glad you are doing one, I felt terrible and responsible for how the last one ended.

I hope you have an amazing time 🤞 no sickness.

Yes, but we try not to 'invite' them in. We no longer fly. We drive to the port ourselves and park. We skip self serve buffets. We stopped eating dinner with others. With what little time we have left we are spending like there will be no tomorrow on cruises and high end suites, until we no longer can.

Hopefully you run out of money before time🙏

Now to start out 'on the right foot' and will try not to 'ruffle' too many feathers. I just answered another posters social media post poo-pooing the use of a butler escort to the theatre every evening. My reply " There are advantages to having a butler escort one to the theatre. Firstly the butlers know who belongs in the YC section. No passenger will 'confront' another passenger sitting in the YC section that does not belong there. This happened to us. We got to the theatre early for two seats that were occupied and coveted. We resigned ourselves to two seats behind this couple, but our butler said to wait a minute these two passengers do not belong in the YC section and proceeded to inform them that they would have to move. Another time for the "Michael Jackson Tribute Show" we asked our butler to save us two seats in the front row aisle where the families with children run to save for their entourage. Our butler walked over to the children and told them these two seats were reserved and to move. YC has its advantages."

Personally, I'd feel confident the cabin had been cleaned and get on with my cruise.

Presumably there hasn't been a mass outbreak on the ship or anything significant reported? And the other passengers are continuing as normal?

I'm reassured there's nothing I'm missing from the original question though. Thank you.

It’s a Holiday Road. Got to port of Miami Terminal . Still a trick to get to the YC tent to unload bags. Parking garage C is only accepting credit cards and one must pay in advance. The checkin agent at the garage said if cash one must park elsewhere. First 2 floors were packed at 9 am. Recommend during hurricane season one park on 2 floor and up in case of flooding. While being escorted into terminal, YC to the left , 2 gentlemen in front of us with carry on luggage. One was allowed to pass the other had to check his bag because it was maybe 27”. Was present when a family presented themselves to a porter who attached their luggage tags to their luggage . As they proceeded to leave the porter he reminded them of a gratuity for handling their bags. The gentleman dug in his pocket as his wife was digging in her bag searching for something. After checking in we were escorted in a group of 10 to an elevator and crammed in. The only escalator was reversed for leaving passengers. Of course there were stairs but too hard with our carry ons.

"Still a trick to get to YC tent to unload bags."  What we did last time was keep our bags with us while we parked and then looked for the tent.  It was a pain to do, though.  I know you bring a lot of luggage.

Is it parking garage C for Seashore.?  Why do  you think the garage was so full by 9 AM?  Possibly people had not left yet?
