techteach Posted January 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2023 I was told there are 12 drink coasters in the Commodore Club. Who are they? I have: Sir James Charles Sir Arthur Rostron Sir Edgar Britten Sir Cyril Illingworth Sir Ivan Thompson Gotta get ‘‘em all!
Bell Boy Posted January 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Sir James Bisset is another one , I can't recall the other six 🤔
bluemarble Posted January 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2023 I clearly need to spend more time in the Commodore Club! There is an earlier post from 2016 on this board and news articles from that same time mentioning Cunard had introduced seven cocktails inspired by seven knighted Cunard Commodores. Those seven Commodores listed on the Commodore Club drinks menu who apparently have coasters for them are: Sir James Charles Sir Arthur Rostron Sir Edgar Britton Sir Robert Irving Sir James Bisset Sir Cyril Illingworth Sir Ivan Thompson I see @Bell Boy has just mentioned Sir James Bisset. So I guess I can now add Sir Robert Irving to your list to make it seven. If there are five more in addition to these seven, I'm sorry I don't have a lead on who those would be.
Rare D&N Posted January 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2023 I'm not familiar with these coasters, but I found a forum called "theqe2story". It mentions many past Commodores that captained QE2, perhaps some of these might jog memories: It doesn't include whether any of them were knighted. Commodore William Eldon Warwick Commodore J Burton-Hall Commodore Christopher Rynd Commodore Bernard Warner Commodore William Warwick Commodore T D Ridley Commodore Christopher Wells? ** There may be more mentioned on that forum. ** The posts on Christopher Wells suggest he was only promoted to Commodore on his retiral, so might not have justified a coaster.
exlondoner Posted January 10, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2023 What about Captain Burton Hall?

I'm afraid none of these youngsters would qualify for a Commodore Club Coaster. The Cocktails and coasters are about celebrating those Golden Days of the 'Ocean Liners'- 1930's etc
techteach Posted January 11, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted January 11, 2023 On our TA our favorite bar tender became Herbert. He said there were 12, so that is my source. The ones I mention I have in use at home and hope to acquire the others in June. It is fun to grab one and remember the gentle rock of QM2. I just had surgery so I am working with one arm, so pictures have to wait. If you don’t know of these you clearly haven’t spent enough time at the Commodore Club. Cheers! swjumbo Posted January 11, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Have a ‘google’ about Sir Edgar Britten. Probably the best name ever for a Cunard Captain but an interesting life too!

I'm fairly certain that Bernard Warner was never master of QE2. I have several of these coasters, but none that haven't been named yet.

That forum briefly discusses his retiral and mentions him assuming command after an accident in Fort Lauderdale but doesn't specify a period when he was master.
