Rare Colorado Klutch Posted January 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2023 When I look at online deck plans, there are many blank areas. Are there any deck plans which show what are in those areas? It would be nice know if the area across the passageway from my cabin is a crew living space or a noisy machine area. Blank areas on deck plans are 'crew only' areas such as the galley, the mooring (fwd & aft) decks, storage areas, offices, etc.
REOVA Posted January 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2023 Mostly are crew work areas or internal crew stairwells. Others would be ship mechanical or storage depending on deck level. Not sure if there are "blue print" type plans we can see. Might be best to find someone currently onboard and ask what doors or area is across the way from cabin. You may find them in this forum or the Roll Call. I'm sure people walk by all day and wouldn't mind snapping a photo for you. You may hear the door shut when crew cone in and out (some have mentioned it) but we had more noise from cabins next to or above us when people let the balcony doors slam. Rare albingirl Posted January 10, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2023 If it's a kitchen galley, be prepared for no sleep on your cruise. Clanging and banging pots and pans and carts all night long. Try to avoid booking a cabin below.

jenp123 Posted January 10, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 10, 2023 I am very picky about noise and definitely avoid having a room with any "blank spaces" above, below or around me. I was booking directly with a HAL agency, and he was able to call another department to find out what one of the "blank spaces" was above a potential room. It was the mechanical equipment for filtering and running the pool. I promptly picked another location:) So it may be possible to find out by phoning hal and asking

There is a blank area across from my booked cabin, 5076 aboard Koningsdam. That's why I was wondering about it. It appears only cabins are below and above. Sounds like there's an unfilled niche for non-public space descriptions on cruise ships. I wouldn't be surprised if that information was limited distribution. The large space aft of 5091 is likely an AC fan room. The small space forward of 5087 is likely a pantry area.

Yep, that's pretty much as she wrote 😉 Of course, for lesser offenses, there's still skinning taters in the (white space) galley or spit shining officer's shoes in the (white space) paint store for a day

You have a balcony similar in location to mine on the N. Statendam. Looks like there are inside staterooms directly across from you. Luckily, like with my stateroom, those inside rooms open to the opposite hallway. Shouldn't have too much noise, at least not a stateroom door banging across from you. We had a Suite on the N. Amsterdam across from some of that blank space. We could not tell from the deck plan, but once we were onboard, realized there was a crew door directly opposite. I believe the area held all of the cleaning carts. It was quite noisy!!! To make matters worse, the stateroom doors on that ship had large vents on the lower door. We could hear every conversation that passed by our door. I ended up putting a towel over the vent with some magnets that I travel with. Good luck!!! JeannyJ Posted February 1, 2023 #25 Share Posted February 1, 2023 I'm glad this post was made. We're travelling on the Volendam in July and have stateroom EE3391. On the deck plan there's a white square in what I thought was our room, now I'm not so sure. I know we'll have an outside door beside our room and the elevators/stairs nearby but I'm worried about the box. Can anyone risk a guess? I'm not sure if we'll be able to change rooms as this is an abulatory accessible room and there were only 2 with ocean view available (the other one's on the other side of the ship with the same box).
