Alaska in May or September?

Hello! I have some time off in May and late September. For those that have cruised to Alaska during those months, is there one that is better than the other or are they about the same? Thank you!

If you want to go up on a glacier and ride dog sled you must go in May.  They don’t run in Sept, because snow is gone.

I would do May over September.

May: more snow in the mountains; cooler weather; longer days; possible logistic hiccups as businesses and ports begin to gear up for the new season; 

 

Sept: less snow in the mountains; could still be warm, or you could see a dusting of snow in the mornings; shorter days; potential Pacific storms; stores / activities beginning to wind down.  Fewer ships, fewer people in ports; great end of season sales.

I would do May. Historically less rain and bad weather. Beautiful snowy mountains.

May for longer daylight hours. Also generally better weather, less rain. In Sept lots of stores closing for the season and they are tired of passengers.

We've done both a few times and absolutely mid May has always been the best !!!
