Rare Travelw Posted January 26, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2023 Looking to do transfer from the ship to the airport on our own. With transfer through the cruise line always waiting for the transfer bus to fill. Thinking of a taxi for 4 people.

Thinking of a taxi for 4 people. An UberX is about $40 and an UberXL that would easily fit 4 is about $60. The quality and quantity of traditional taxis in LA is a bit wanting-- Uber or Lyft will be a better experience.

Rare Travelw Posted January 26, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted January 26, 2023 I’ve had the app and an account for a couple of years, just never used it. My kids said there is nothing to it, so I guess it’s time to try it. Thanks

It's by far the easiest solution here and will save you money and hassle.

John99 Posted January 31, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 31, 2023 We never used Uber. We’re old school. Our kids would like us to use Uber for our next 2 cruises. We would like to try this service. Down load the App to your smart phone. Add your profile which includes your credit card number. When using Uber – will the cost of the trip appear on your smart phone? How do you know what’s the cost (before hand)? Next month -- the charges appear on your credit card statement. Does any one have problems with incorrect charges? What is UberX? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. John

I have never been charged an incorrect amount. UberX are bigger vehicles, so you can fit more people/luggage. Comment- price varies for the same ride, depending on time of day, demand, etc.

UberXL are larger versions of the base level offering and are usually minivans or midsize SUVs with a third row.

John99 Posted January 31, 2023 #14 Share Posted January 31, 2023 Thanks for the replies. There's Uber, UberX and UberXL. The price varies for the same ride but depends on the time of day and the demand for the service. Different size vehicles with different pricing. UberX-- entry point and will be the lowest cost Comfort-- newer cars than UberX and slightly more expensive UberXL-- entry level large car that seats up to 6 UberGreen-- basically UberX with hybrids or electric cars Select- nicer than Comfort but not quite Black for more $$ UberBlack-- formal black car sedan thats usually 2-3X UberX Black SUV-- usually a Suburban or Escalade-- seats up to 6 Lux- top end luxury sedan-- usually Mercedes S Class and even the occasional Rolls Royce- 4-5X UberX
BOB999 Posted February 5, 2023 #16 Share Posted February 5, 2023 As a data point, when I left the World Cruise Center in San Pedro yesterday, the taxi rank had a sign saying the approximate fare to LAX was $65. There were no waiting taxis nor were there people waiting for a cab but there was a dispatcher. There were a lot of people on the sidewalk waiting either for a private ride or presumably Uber/Lyft. I checked Uber and saw the following pricing to LAX (all surging): Uber X: $63 Uber XL: $90 Uber Black: $
Smartipantz Posted February 5, 2023 #17 Share Posted February 5, 2023 Which drop you off at the airport (not LAX-it)?

LAX-it is in the airport, but it is for pick-up only. All taxis, Ubers, Lyfts, etc drop off curbside at your airline's terminal.
Rare CruisinShips Posted February 9, 2023 #19 Share Posted February 9, 2023 (edited) Is it difficult to spot your Uber after disembarking at the cruise port with so many people and others doing the same?
