Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted February 16, 2023 Author #103 Share Posted February 16, 2023 (edited) Cruise Critic Community I apologize for offering a live and it just fizzling out altogether. As I said before I started the first leg with a badly injured big toe and foot, but was able to limp slowly as long as I put all weight on the outer half of the foot... Sunday night I tripped over the bathroom threshold, my shoulder caught some of the impact as it hit the front of the sink but my head hit the faucet. Blazing headache when I woke up and the likely diagnosis is concussion. Edited February 16, 2023 by IntrepidFromDC 2
Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted February 16, 2023 Author #104 Share Posted February 16, 2023 I spent all of Monday and Tuesday in bed, 4 advil only dented the headache. Today the headache is finally almost gone but I have strange tiny moving sensation left side of upper head. My daughter called my doctor who said to see him Monday morning and if headache doesn't dissipate without advil in 72 hours, seek emergency help.

Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted February 16, 2023 Author #106 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Today I felt good enough for eggs and bacon for breakfast, then came back to the room and fell asleep right away even though I didn't feel tired. Woke up at 3pm (after sleeping 16 hours Monday and 14 yesterday). Had my first visit to the casino since Sunday night and risked my Steakhouse reservation even though I have felt nauseous since. Finished the lobster bisque and asked for the rest to go, cuz I started getting that uh oh watery mouth feeling...
Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted February 16, 2023 Author #107 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Lower shoulder....I won't show my head cuz its gross cuts and a bump, not a lovely apple-sized purple bruise.

Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted February 16, 2023 #110 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Man - you know how to add some excitement to a cruise! Sorry to hear about that. It's bad enough being injured or down with something at home, it's entirely different (and more depressing) to have it impact vacation plans. 😞 Tom

thomasale Posted February 21, 2023 #116 Share Posted February 21, 2023 Thanks for the enlightening post. Sorry about your fall and hoping things work out. You are a trooper for going and making the best of it! I read with great interest all of your posts. We have just booked 2 balcony rooms for the 4/29 sailing. It has been a long time since I have cruised Carnival (10 plus years) I was booking the NCL Getaway but stopped that thought with the recent changes on the line and the GROUP muster was a no go for us. We've been on RCCL several times out of Canaveral and I have wanted to try the Mardi Gras after seeing it at dock there. We also have sailed Celebrity and have another Cruise with them booked for their new ship (Ascent) coming this Fall out of FLL. I am excited to get back on Carnival and with my wife and sisters, a good time is ALWAYS had with them. The food sounds varied and enjoyable and I guess with the Casino chairs looking like they do it won't be a problem if I spill on them! Again, thanks! Rare ninjacat123 Posted February 22, 2023 #118 Share Posted February 22, 2023 I'm hoping to hear an "all better" report soon! Thanks for your review and sending you wishes for a speedy and complete recovery!👍 PS. Rikki Tiki Tavern was closed for our pre cruise dinner on Jan 13 which bummed me out but like you, we pivoted to Fishlips. Next time when you go to Costa Maya, go to The Krazy Lobster. Great, relaxing beach restaurant with $20 hour long massages!
Rare IntrepidFromDC Posted February 23, 2023 Author #119 Share Posted February 23, 2023 Going to close this with a few more pics, and to summarize by saying I feel like I still haven't been on my first B2B yet! CT scan was mostly good news, I go back Tuesday for a 2nd time with yucky contrast. I feel almost like myself again. Sorry this live fizzled out like Neil Young! Emmabelle Posted February 23, 2023 #124 Share Posted February 23, 2023 sorry this happened to you! Would you recommend the ship overall? I haven't been on Carnival since 2019. I'm looking at the 4/29 Mardi Gras, the prices are really good for a balcony. Thanks for any insight for things other than the food since you've already done a great job with pics. 😃

Thanks for any insight for things other than the food since you've already done a great job with pics. 😃 The food is one of several things that makes Mardi Gras a grand departure from every Carnival ship before it, IMO. Be sure to grab "anytime" dining so you get the additional dinner options like Chibang at any time early, free. I've read people come in on both sides, but I've enjoyed every meal in Chibang quite a bit, and it's free like MDR food. I'm really tired of Carnival MDR food for the most part and Lido marketplace is hit or miss. Shaq's chicken and Cucina are great free options in my opinion, up there with Blue Iguana. The teppanyaki restaurant is fun but just like all the rest, Steakhouse is amazing and Rudi's is also great. Others have raved about Emeril's, I've been pretty happy with the food there but not "wow'd" like I am with the other pay food. Other great free options include the Food Truck type stations, Shawarma (don't sleep on Shawarma!) and Sea Dogs, good quality hot dogs and sausages from other countries. I still haven't tried Bolt. The Grand Central shows are fun to watch and worth the price of admission. The casino is huge and the slot machines seem to be turned down so it doesn't have that Vegas madness feel. I haven't been on Celebration yet, but Mardi Gras is everything Horizon should have been (I feel like Horizon was a disappointment) and more. Have a great cruise and bet you can't eat everywhere.
