seattle013 Posted March 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Per CNN, Life At Sea Cruises now offers "Cabins [that] run the gamut from 13 square feet..." That's a little less than a 7' x 2' cabin they call their "virtual cabin." I hope this is a typo on CNN's part, or that's just room for a tiny bed! LH25 Posted March 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2023 LOL-I think it is a typo, another story says they are 130 square feet. Still small!

See https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/3-year-cruise-mv-gemini/index.html . I'm sure it's a typo but it is funny nonetheless. Reminds me of an old Monty Python sketch. "Ah look at us now; cruising is so luxurious. Who would've thought when we were young that we'd be cruising in a suite on such a beautiful ship. Why I remember in the good old days at sea, we used to have to cram 6 people in a small cabin with two bunks and no bathroom." "You had bunks? LUXURY! When WE used to cruise, there were 8 of us huddled in a lifeboat with only a tarpaulin to protect us from the elements." "A lifeboat? Consider yourselves lucky! We slept in the engine room and had to get up every half an hour to stoke the boilers. Then we got to eat a piece of moldy bread, had to clean all the cabins by noon, and only earned tuppence a day." "Tuppence? That would have been heaven for us!"

Roughly like "hot-racking"--e.g. sharing the berth with another sailor on a submarine.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_racking

I guess they either were looking at double-occupancy cabins or never looked at the Studio cabins in NCL's fleet. Those cabins are 100 sq. feet. I think Royal's on the Quantum class are of similar size (inside or balcony).
