Shareholder OBC and military rate/OBC ?

I have Carnival corporation stock, and have enjoyed the OBC many times on Carnival as a result ($50 on short sailings, $100/wk).

Can I assume this also is the case with HAL? Is it just a matter of sending my sailing info along with a copy of my stock statement... and what email address should I use?

Now, regarding the military question. Does HAL extend any rate reduction or OBC ?

THANKS,

Tom

Currently they do offer a $100 OBC per stateroom for active military and veterans.  On their website it's under Cruise Deals and you have to scroll down until you find it.

Here's the URL for information on the Shareholder Benefit OBC

https://www.carnivalcorp.com/static-files/50351a91-4dc0-4f6b-bfec-684647e6129f

The vote to authorize it for cruises past July 31, 2023 has not yet been taken.

Check the latest (2022) Carnival Annual Report.  The ever popular OBC is good for another year 😀

Thanks. I hadn't read the annual report yet.

The one with 2023 expiration date is still the one linked to at https://www.carnivalcorp.com/shareholder-information/shareholder-benefit?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit

I’m not sure, I think I might be, it has been very confusing booking. Maybe you can tell me though why a military veteran would be denied no matter what the rate? I’m having a hard time understanding.

We can probably thank the bean counters. I'm sure they're trying to cut corners everywhere they can - even if some of those cuts are "cold".

Over on the Carnival boards, it's very common to see shareholder OBC denied due to casino rates. I have yet to see that (and have applied many times). With Royal Caribbean though, they were Johnny-on-the-spot with their policy - and "nailed" me the first time I used a casino rate.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat. DH got a private sale and I was denied the HCW OBC. The offer was internally coded as a casino offer. But it was really a private sale at a stunning rate.

I’m not complaining as the cost for a veranda under the private sale is well under rack rate for an inside. Had we taken the offered inside cabin, the port fees would have been much more than the cost for the cabin for 17 days.

So I guess you have a decision- accept the stellar private sale “gift rate” OR

pay the rack rate/current published rate and take your $100 “military discount.”

I went through the verification process (that was fast) for the military rate. I just booked this sailing in the last week or so - can they apply the OBC after the fact (like the shareholder credit) or is it REALLY for new bookings only (as the fine print indicates)?

It can be applied to existing bookings, though you may have to call to get it applied. That's what chat told me the other day.

Same here. I called, was told to wait a few days, then emailed. At that point I was told I couldn’t get it because of the rate we paid, so I can use it for a future cruise. (DH got a really great private sale rate, no complaints here, just gratitude.)

I tried this yesterday - on two separate calls.  Each time told Military OBC could not be applied to my 2 existing bookings.

Well.... we're way before final payment. The deposit is refundable (I think). I mean, I could always cancel and rebook (price has not changed). Hmmmm

I'm going to try again in a couple of days.  I was able to get this after booking before.  Every time.

When you call, let them know you will cancel and rebook in order to get your deserved OBC.  Hopefully they realize the insanity of this.

is this not something Guest Services on board can take care of by showing them the approval email? Feels like something you can use to leverage getting the credit when on the ship. I also been hearing it takes a few weeks for the credit to apply after verification so who knows. I would still hang on to that email and try on board if all else fails. Their job at the front desk is to make sure you are well taken care of so if its within their power and you are nice it can most likely happen.

At least for the cruise I signed up on the price went up so not worth it to cancel and rebook.

This was my experience on the teacher appreciation OBC today: After more than 50 minutes on the phone, they assure me there is NO WAY to apply this to an existing booking and those of you who were able to are either very confused or lying. I don't have anymore fight in me today....

At least it was a toll free call... glass half (well, at least a little bit) full.  🙂
