Which Ft Lauderdale hotel for a view of the ships? Usually looking for a cheap room but decided this time to splurge

Not purgatory at all…there is an active group of cruisers - including many locals among whom is our host - on this board.  I am one of them and answering you from a Round Australia cruise sea day.

 

The best views of the port are from the Hilton Marina in a port facing tower room.

Chose one of the ‘high water view’ rooms, plus I would reiterate with a note under special requests that you want a view of Port Everglades to ensure you can see the ships.  Once there, if you want to get even closer walk out of the hotel, cross 17th Street, turn left and climb the bridge.  There are even benches at the top of the bridge.
 

The departure boat parade begins around 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  Arrivals begin around 4 am.  If you are up early take a look out your window before day break. All the boats are lit up and it is magical.

 

The area has lots of nearby restaurants.  Boatyard is very close and we enjoy it https://boatyard.restaurant/menu/

10th floor - 14th floor (Hilton Honors) for best ship views. the bridge is in the way of the lower tower floors

This isn't purgatory, its the relevant board for the topic. If you did a search, you would see it has been talked about frequently here, although not recently.

 

Another hotel to see the ships come in, and you can see them several miles out in the channel, is the Embassy Suites. However, only on the east side of the hotel, and higher floors.

Call the hotel but I don’t think so.  If they do, ask how much it costs since most Fort Lauderdale hotels near the port that have shuttles charge per passenger for a ride. Uber, Lyft and taxis charge per vehicle and are frequently cheaper for 2 passengers and definitely cheaper for 3 or more. If you are departing from terminals 2 or 4 (see the port map on the Port Everglades website) they are directly across 17th Street and walkable for some passengers.
