D & S Posted April 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2023 We arrive the day before the cruise. Anyone know anything about the Galleria Shopping Mall and is it worth it to walk around for the afternoon. Its about 10 minutes from our hotel. We would have to take an Uber there. Noticed there is the Sawgrass Outlet but further away. Any thoughts?? Thanks
Ashland Posted April 29, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2023 The Sawgrass Mill Mall is absolutely worth it instead if you can get there. Absolutely huge and we loved it. We had a car rental but it seemed like there were shuttles to get there also...not exactly sure how but hopefully someone will post the info for you. Elaine5715 Posted April 29, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2023 I have been to both for a walk about. Had a great lunch at the Villagio at Sawgrass Mill, would go back just for that.
fireofficer5 Posted May 1, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2023 If you are adventurous, there is a Broward County Transit bus that runs from A1A and Sunrise Blve. to the Sawgrass mills mall. Rout 36, it takes 1 1/2 hours to get from the beach to the mall.
Cienfuegos Posted May 2, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2023 If you have access to an Uber or would like to take BrightLine, you could consider the Aventura Mall, in Aventura south of Fort Lauderdale. It's a luxury mall, and it has its own BrightLine station with several arrivals and departures daily
bajathree Posted May 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2023 It depends what you're looking for. If you are looking for some serious shopping Sawgrass Mills is a much better option. If you are just looking for a nice lunch/dinner and some indoor mall shopping and walking around then Galleria will be fine.
Rothko1 Posted May 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 2, 2023 Sawgrass is a pretty huge place. Great for shopping, but if you buy all that stuff, where are you going to keep it? You'll need to buy another suitcase! 🙂
Rare J13C85 Posted May 3, 2023 #8 Share Posted May 3, 2023 In early Dec, we wandered the Galleria Mall to kill some time before our flight home. Mall was nothing special but we had a good time. Had a nice lunch at PF Chang's (I know it's a chain but we always like it).
WatchHill Posted May 3, 2023 #9 Share Posted May 3, 2023 Pre-cruise, we spend a few days in Ft Lauderdale area and DH insists we go to Sawgrass so he can buy warm weather clothes to fill his near-empty cruise attire suit case. Of course, I can find a few items, too. On our last trip, my sister came with us and was amazed by the shops and size of Sawgrass. It was pre-Christmas, and nicely decorated. Oh, we do rent a car for the convenience. Darcy
Reina del Mar Posted June 1, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 1, 2023 Found Sawgrass Mills very sprawling. Staying on 17th Street it was hard to reach without renting a car..we had flown internationally so hadn’t intended having a car. We asked for help regarding shuttles..it appears there is one from Miami, but nothing from Fort Lauderdale..you could get a private taxi/shuttle from some hotels but quite expensive. The car rental wasn’t too bad but we ended up paying approx $100 including insurance, taxes and fees…quite a lot more than the $39 dollars we were quoted…this was pre Covid so no idea how much it might have increased by now. Post Covid we decided not to visit and caught a local tourist bus to Galleria Mall. We’d been previously so knew what to expect there..nothing too exciting Dillard’s Macy’s..Sears has closed down…depends what you are looking for…for a big Outlet mall shop probably Sawgrass is worth the expense..for a few last minute items there’s Publix, Total Wine, Ross, Marshalls etc at Harbor Shops on 17th Street, without incurring an extra cost if staying nearby. Cienfuegos Posted June 3, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 3, 2023 Florida has a lot of taxes and fees imposed on car rentals. State, county, municipal, convention center district, kids safety seats, etc) plus fees from the airport if you rent there.
