Considering a 5 day this summer with my daughter on the Sunshine. We've been on several Carnival cruises, but not since Covid. Any recent Sunshine cruisers want to share anything about your trip?  Thank you!

We were on Sunshine a couple of months ago.  Really nothing out of the ordinary except that the ship was FULL (although that's the new normal), and I much prefer cruises longer than 5 days.  The theatre is smallish, only two decks, so if you want a good seat for shows you better get there early.  All in all it was a good cruise.

Anything you want to share. Good or bad.

She is now the oldest ship in the fleet but went through a huge renovation about 10 years ago. Most public areas have been updated and maintained since and look fairly nice, but the staterooms were only lightly renovated back then and are rusty and old looking.

By and large the food on the buffet was absolutely disgusting on my last cruise on her.

The comedy club is poorly designed so you have to get there early if you want to be able to actually see the comedian and have a seat.

The dining room food was mostly good.

The casino is very smoky throughout, and everyone has to walk through it because Promenade goes right through the middle.

The Serenity (adults only resort type area) is widely considered to be the best in the fleet - and I wholeheartedly agree.

All this said - I'd go on Sunshine again in a heartbeat obviously. I'd just do most of my eating in the dining room, unless the buffet has improved since my last cruise.

That concerns me about the buffet. When was your last cruise? Definitely hope it has improved!

My last cruise on her was September 2022. I am hopeful it's improved since then. It was fine (but not what I'd call good) earlier in February and May of 2022. But Carnival has been making tons of cutbacks on their food since the COVID restart and I think they may have cut too far. I read a lot of threads here and many people say the food on Carnival is now underwhelming on many ships - but few go so far as to say it's disgusting.

Did the 4 night cruise in January 2023 and doing the same cruise again in November.

We had spa balcony cabin and it was great.  Spend a lot of time on the balcony.  The last night it rained/stormed all night and there was a very loud banging noise outside so I had basically no sleep.  I saw the woman in the cabin next door as we were debarking and she look as sleep deprived as me.

Never ate the buffet so can’t comment on that.  JiJi’s and Cucino were great.  Bonsai sushi was great.  Only ate in MDR one night and it was good.  The steakhouse was excellent as always.

Seaday brunch was just okay.  I had the Emerils shrimp and grits and it was good.  Husband’s steak was a bloody mess on his plate served with only cold crinkle cut fries. Can’t believe he ate that.  The flaming tomato soup was very good - glad they brought that back!

The weather wasn’t the greatest so we spend a lot of time playing trivia and at the Alchemy bar which was excellent as always.  Only walked through Serenity a few times because of the weather.  But have sailed on Sunshine in the past and I agree it has the best Serenity.

Did not attend any comedy shows this time but I also agree the comedy club is very small and you have to be there very early.  We did attend the Love and Marriage shows which was very funny.

Embarking and debarking were both painless although it was pouring rain during debarking.

Any other questions you have just ask!
