Latest Embarkation Time in Civitavecchia

Sailing on Enchanted on June 3rd Rome to Athens, sail time is 7PM. The last available check in group was 3-3:30PM. I called Princess but was not able to get a straight answer, is this all that is left? Or does everyone have to be on board by 3:30/4PM? Is that normal/usual for European ports? Thank you in advance for any insight!

That is pretty typical for most sailings (at least ones we have been on.)  There will be a few oddball cruises that may leave later in the evening, but around 4:00PM-5:00PM sail away sounds about right.

We’ve found sail time from Civi to be about 7pm.  However, the all onboard time is usually 4pm.  Much different from Caribbean sailings.  We prefer to board by noon to have lunch, relax a bit and then unpack before dinner.  Of course, you can just show up at pretty much anytime after 10am and wait in line.  Lots of people ignore Princess suggested check in times.

Thank you! The difference from Caribbean sailings is what threw me off. We would prefer to spend more time in Rome rather than on the ship.

Given the distance from Rome to the port,  you really don't want to spend more than the morning in Rome before leaving for  the port.

LOL!  I think you'll find that *most* people here on Cruise Critic would fall in the opposite camp!  They want to get on the ship ASAP!  😉

It's about a 70 minute drive in light traffic.
