Got my passport and passport card….renewal

Paid for expedited processing and express return

Mailed Priority Fixed Rate May 15

Arrived in PA - Application Status: In Process May 17

Received new passport by Priority Mail Express June 24

5 weeks and 3 days from when it was received in PA

I found it interesting that my passport shows it was printed on June 16.

I received the new passport card on June 23 by regular mail.

My passport was mailed Priority Mail Express from Arkansas USPS on June 20.

Just renewed a passport book in about 3 weeks.
No expedited or rushed shipping services - just the standard $130 renewal

June 5 - Mailed application via USPS Priority Mail
June 7 - Application received at Dept. of State - Philadelphia
June 8 - Online status shows "In process"
June 23 - Online status shows "Approved"
June 24 - Online status shows "Shipped"
June 27 (today) - USPS tracking and Informed Delivery shows expected delivery June 28 (tomorrow).

So, barring it getting lost in the mail today, 23 days total from mailing application to receiving booklet.
Very pleasantly surprised.

Wow that is phenomenal!  Not like the usual experience.

Perhaps they are getting caught up with the glut of applications.

Nope mine was mailed on April 16 and has been "in process" since April 20th.

Makes entirely no sense.

My personal experience with the US Passport office.  My passport had expired a few years ago. Been cruising with just my BC and photo ID. Deided to apply for a passport for a repositioning sailing. Checked my status on the passport website. Still says "in process" after 4 months now.  I know about the delays but come on. No I did not pay the extra for expedidated. I figured  applying 6 months before should be enough time. Now I wonder

It’s absolutely nuts. why on earth would one application be fulfilled in a few weeks and another takes months?

Here’s some other things that may or may have been a factor in getting my renewal so fast.

- The existing passport still have over a year left on it, but we did it now because of timings of the other trips.

- I filled out the DS-82 renewal application online and printed/mailed the completed form with the bar code.

- I indicated travel plans on the application with a date months before my actual travel

- The photo was taken with an iphone, uploaded to the Dept of State website to crop, then printed from Walmart.com, with photo compliance checking.

- It was mailed via USPS Priority Mail flat rate envelope

- Even though I expected this to take 10-13 weeks, I checked the status online twice a day everyday. (Yeah, I know… overkill) But I wonder if that bumps the priority behind the scenes…??

All,

Here is the time line for our passport renewal.

Mailed in renewal forms on 1 Apr

State Department got forms 4 Apr

State Department approved new passport  23 Jun

Got new passport 28 Jun

Total time was 89 days or 12.5 weeks.

Hope this info helps everyone on what the time line is right now.

Thanks for this.  We don’t have to renew for a couple of years yet but I’m going to have to do some planning for spacing out trips to get this accomplished.  It’s too bad it’s taking this long.  I think last time it was about 4 weeks which is certainly more doable.

Thanks.  Was this the regular renewal or the $60 extra expedited renewal?

I just sent in my passport renewal yesterday (expedited).

This was a regular renewal not expedited.
