Can someone tell me if there is an advantage to paying air in advance of final payment of the cruise  is due.

Some airlines do not let you select seats unless you’re ticketed (meaning your ticket is paid for).

I agree, the only advantage I can think of is that you can select your seats for those airlines that don't allow you to select until you pay.

If you pay in full before final payment and had an emergency where you need to cancel would you get receive a full refund?

Minus the $200 pp change fee assuming the emergency is not covered by insurance.
