First cruise in 5 years.....

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I will be sailing on Wonder this July 2. I'm all checked in, excursions reserved, flights purchased. Just waiting for entertainment to open to reserve shows. I have a few questions since it's been a bit since sailing last.

I purchased the 3 night dining package and am interested in Hooked, Chops Grille and Giovanni. I may have confused myself with how this works. Is there an additional charge for Chops or any others I've mentioned?

I'm not a big gambler by any stretch of the imagination. Can cash be used on the slot machines or do you insert the Sea pass card?

Which nights are the formal/lobster night (dress your best)? I recently learned about the one lobster limit which is fine. I want to know for planning attire.

I'm on deck 8 forward. Are there any particular watch outs for that deck?

Is there a club with a DJ or current pop music playing in the evenings?

I will be traveling with an 18 year old. Due to age obviously the "teen activities" don't apply. Do young adults of similar age meet up anywhere specific?

Thanks in advance for the input and getting me up to speed!

PS I've sailed Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian, Disney and Royal. Norwegian being the last cruise. Royal and Disney are my two memorable lines.

No.

Card use only.

Usually, nights 2 and 6.

Lobster night is now the 2nd dress up night so you can plan to not miss it.

Deck 8 was schooners piano at night on oasis I think, it's the boardwalk level in the aft. I dont think there are DJs but we had a very good knock off band we were lucky to have. Bands dont stay long with ships so no telling who you will get.

Rcl is supposedly doing something new for that age group, 18 to 21, forget the name. Not sure it's on all ships or it's going over well.

None of those pay venues have a upcharge, unless you order something that costs extra. Chops lobster says 1.5 lbs from maine and has a upcharge.

Yes, the slot machines do take US Dollar Bills in all denominations.  Play with your card inserted to earn points for future casino offers/discounts on cruises.

You've picked a new ship that I haven't sailed on yet, but everyone's talking about. But since it's been five years, lower your expectations about food.

I think it was like that pre-pandemic, no?

I was on Wonder in early March. We had two "formal" nights. One was night 2, the other was 5 or 6. Lobster was on night 6.

Deck 8 is a good spot. Since you are Forward there shouldn't be noise from the public spaces and there are other staterooms above you.

There's lots of karaoke and we found that most of the people who participated were really good. I think there are some dance parties, too.

We ate at all three of the restaurants you mentioned and really enjoyed them.

Have a great time!

Is there an additional charge for Chops or any others I've mentioned?  No extra charges, except for a couple of optional entrees.  You can only book the reservations on board.  (not pre-cruise)

I'm not a big gambler by any stretch of the imagination. Can cash be used on the slot machines or do you insert the Sea pass card? Your choice.  But you want to use your SeaPass card, to accumulate points.  On the Wonder, you just tap, not insert.  🙂

Which nights are the formal/lobster night (dress your best)? I recently learned about the one lobster limit which is fine. I want to know for planning attire. 2 & 6.  Lobster tail on 6.

I'm on deck 8 forward. Are there any particular watch outs for that deck?  It's a great deck - easy access to Central Park.

Is there a club with a DJ or current pop music playing in the evenings?  Music Hall, also on Deck 8 (upper  level on Deck 9)

I will be traveling with an 18 year old. Due to age obviously the "teen activities" don't apply. Do young adults of similar age meet up anywhere specific?   Yes.  Look in the app/Cruise Compass for daily notices.

Thanks in advance for the input and getting me up to speed!

My responses are in red after your questions.  🙂

Idk what it was at what date but it was changed lately from the first dress up night to the second. We think fewer people show up for the second is why it's now stated by rcl it will be on the 2nd dress up night.

Most lately right after covid it was the first dress up night. I cant remember before covid.

Order a steak entree and a lobster. That's what all the men did at my table, order 2 entrees. The strip steak isnt bad. I like the garlic butter, but it also comes with gravy. Though just can have one entree at a time usually.

Now its maine lobster. My last one was bigger. Not a bad size but the one before wasnt bigger.

I never have high expectations for ship food. While it’s always been decent to good it’s never hot like fresh out the pot which is disappointing but I chalk it up to way too many people to have it flawless.

Thanks so much for this. I did know about needing to reserve on board which seems like a penalty to those that purchased in advance. No real biggie. Good to know about getting points in the casino! Not sure how much my $40 will get me. 😂

It's always been the second

Ok I thought I read about it on the new changes complaint thread. I also had it the 2nd night on all 3 of my 5 night grandeur cruises when I didnt expect it. I guess I'm easily confused.
