Shuttle to town about 45 mins. A different drop off since last time, now the Larcomar Mall, on the cliff at the bottom of Miraflores. A convenient location. Visited 2 different markets, lunch, wine & Pisco tasting, and walking tour around Baranco. A good day with interesting sights.

I caught a shuttle mid morning, wandered up to the Inka market. As I was solo I escaped there purchase free….no such luck at the stalls next to the ship however. Had a beer in town, got a small amount of SOL ……the money changers in town are plentiful and give the true rate. San Martin ( Pisco ) tomorrow.

A 30 min shuttle through the desert to Paracas which is thriving with many bars, restaurants, shops along the waterfront. Very welcoming and no hassle. Sun came out and many Pisco Sours were being sampled. Lots of last minute shopping was in evidence. A local dance group and others in traditional costumes on the dock to welcome us. Taxi tours available on the dock, plus many local tours available near the shuttle stop. Last shuttle was at 4pm, which was probably for the best so as to avoid any last minute boarding drama. 4 sea days then perhaps…maybe…Easter Island.

Indeed, he was right. Probably the most tender movement we have boarded in, and the Capt was personally at the pontoon monitoring. Loading was a slow process, and the tender crew had to be careful navigating through the rock on either side of the harbour. The Captain earned his pay check today……a big well done to him and to his crew. The guys helping everyone on & off did a great job…..as long as you listened to their instructions! Very good 4 hour tour visiting 4 sites; the damp weather cleared quickly to a nice day. Jumped off the van for a drink and bite to eat when back in town, then strolled the interesting waterfront walk back to the tender. We were ashore for about 7 hours. The harbour area was more developed than last time we were here in ‘17. According to our guide we were the first ship in since the restart. Not a cheap day out, but worth every penny…..thoroughly enjoyable. 5 days to Papeete with a cruise around Pitcairn on the way. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted September 3, 2023 #421 Share Posted September 3, 2023 Great that you got ashore and have also done so in the past. You must be the ship's "lucky mascot" passenger! 😊
Tranquility Base Posted September 4, 2023 #422 Share Posted September 4, 2023 The Captain gave his departure announcement while we were at dinner. He sounded very happy the day went well, and also praised his crew, especially the deck / tender team for a job very well done. He mentioned two interesting snippets. The swell was complicated today, not only from open sea swell, but also from a reflected swell off the shore affecting the ship. The rounding of the Island from Eastside to Westside this morning was done using radar and paper chart due to the Island’s position being different to the GPS / Electronic charting system. Something to do with the datum used for recording the Island’s position.
