JoRoy218 Posted May 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2023 We’ll be spending the day in San Diego (during a cruise stop) and looking for opinions on a good, local lunch spot. We’re particularly interested in quality Mexican or perhaps a family owned Italian place. Appreciate your input! 😎

Appreciate your input! 😎 You can walk to Little Italy, which is full of quality restaurants; you can google for suggestions. Davanti Enoteca is a favorite but there are lots of choices. Miguel’s or Brigantine Portside are very near where the ship will be docked, and are also good/popular.
julia Posted May 30, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2023 The most "family owned" and well-loved Italian eatery in San Diego's Little Italy is Filippis. 15 minute walk from the ship, casual, iconic, good food. Google it. Go. You're welcome.
CruiserBruce Posted May 30, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Yes, Filippis is very good.

She said quality Mexican 😁 Miguel's is way too gringo, white bread for me. At the Headquarters at Seaport Village they have Puesto. In the Gaslamp is an outpost of Tacos El Gordo, the famous Tijuana taco shack. Also in that area are La Puerta and El Chingon. Further east you have Las Cuatro Milpas (since 1933); they close at 3PM and ALWAYS have a line. Just east of that is Barrio Logan, the heart of San Diego's Mexican population for generations and two dozen great places. 5 hours ago, CruiserBruce said: Yes, Filippis is very good. I like Filippi's Pizza Grotto a lot, it is old school, NY style Italian, but Little Italy has a dozen better Italian restaurants, including the above mentioned Davanti Enoteca, Bencotto, Menollo, Buon Appetito, Ristorante Illando, Zucchero and a few others. LynnSD Posted May 30, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2023 All good choices, depending on what they want and how far they want to walk.
JoRoy218 Posted May 30, 2023 Author #8 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Wow, thanks all! No issues with walking, fortunately. We need to stay in SD more than 1 day! Really appreciate the feedback!

The downtown...within a mile or two of the cruise terminal and including Petco, is very walkable, fun and pleasant to visit.

crystalspin Posted June 15, 2023 #11 Share Posted June 15, 2023 Heh, I am a gringa. Miguel's near Old Town (there are other locales) is very nice, great Cadillac margaritas, and HAD PARKING when we needed it & nowhere else did.

There is a new Miguel's that is right at the port now.
