Gotcha! I detest people lighting up in areas that are non smoking, they make it bad for all the people that abide by the rules. Agree with you 100% on that, they are selfish

I'm certain that there are some people who find vaping affects them adversely.

And, it seems that the American Heart Association sees Vaping as potentially harmful:

Maybe in a dive bar. Not on a cruise ship balcony with ample fresh air flow.

Here I am again. Vaping affects me. I still remember the first time I encountered it. I was in a pool on a cruise ship, nowhere near the smoking section. But I started to wheeze like someone was smoking. I was really confused ... I couldn't see smoke, couldn't smell anything... until I saw a young woman sitting on the edge of the pool sucking on what looked like a USB drive. So I asked her about it, found out it was a vape thing, and then asked her if she could do it in the smoking section. She was honestly shocked it gave someone a reaction and complied.

you know, I really feel this should be the response.  Just ask the person.  Personally, I'm not a fan of "I'm going to tell security".  I guess we're all built differently

i’m not a fan of mentioning a rules violation to another guest. you know why? ninety-nine times out of a hundred, they know exactly what they’re doing and have made a conscious choice to violate the rules. it’s not my job to confront them or educate them.

i’m a big fan of  calling security… you know why?

it is their job to confront them and educate them.

as for vaping… i have two things to say… the first is that there are hundreds of chemicals in vapor, including cancer causing agents, as well as metal compounds. the second is that the last discussion here in the forum of whether vaping on NCL ships can cause harm was shut down.

The same could be said for aerosol sunscreens or hairspray. Are you going to call security next time someone is using them on a balcony? And again, the "second hand toxicity" from vaping is literally only valid in an unventilated enclosed space like a dive bar.

Is that some kind of threat?

There is zero chance....zero...that you had an acute respiratory attack from someone using a vape a pool's length away from you outside. How do you know you weren't reacting to exhaust fumes from the ship? Correlation is not causation.

I stopped reacting when she went to the smoking section. Yes, correlation is not causation, but when you have allergies, you go through a process of elimination. The pool was pretty far forward of the funnel and I have yet to react to the fumes from the ship. I didn't ask what kind of substance she was vaping because at the time, I didn't realize it wasn't all one thing.

She was also not a pool's length when I reacted. She was about 6 feet away from me. It's also possible she had a fragrance on that I couldn't smell. (Unhappily, I also get reactions to fragrances, even peoples' laundry detergents. Especially Gain for some reason.) The issue began when she sat down on the edge near me. The issue was ameliorated when she moved away. I was also lucky in that she was friendly and amenable.

And my own health minefield aside, the ship rule is still that vaping goes in the smoking section.

Oh sweet deity.  When does “NO SMOKING OR VAPING” (unless in designated areas) not translate to NO?

The arguments are old and tired.

NCL (as well as all the other cruise lines) has forbidden smoking/vaping of ANY type of substance on balconies and restrict it to designated areas of their ships.  Arguing arm chair “science” isn’t the point.  It’s forbidden…for good reason.  Some, I’m sure is for the safety of the ship, guests and crew.  Some, I’m sure is because if you forbid one and not the other, all of a sudden the “vapers” are going to be blowing big billows of whatever they exhale in all areas of the ship.  That’s not a good thing, either.

The current rules are going in the opposite direction.  The cruise lines are going to restrict it more, not less.  Until finally (probably sooner than later) is going to prohibit it entirely…..both smoking and vaping…..ANYTHING!

We’ve had this discussion regarding marijuana, too.  People say they have a script.  I get that.  But, in reality, on a Federal level, marijuana is still an illegal substance.  Not arguing whether that’s right or wrong.  It just is.  Moreover, it’s illegal in most ports.  Getting caught with cannabis of any type in a foreign port will net you jail time….IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY!  It won’t be a slap on the wrist as in the U.S.  Why risk any of that?  So, it’s forbidden on the cruise ship, too.

This is another case of “I don’t care what you think or what the rules are or whom else I annoy on board, I’m going to act like a 5 year old and do whatever I want” attitude.

I'd like them to ban spray sunscreen.  25% gets applied, and the rest goes to the surrounding people.  It can't be healthy to be breathing that and getting it in your eyes and mouth.

There's a market and valid reason for it, though.  I'm particularly hirsute (look it up, I'm trying to be couth), it takes me a good 20 minutes or more to fully apply cream-type sunscreens, especially reef-safe ones that are particularly thick.  spray-on is MUCH quicker to apply.  Yes, I realize there's still some effort to rub it down to the skin but there's still a significant time savings...

Can someone please tell me what the"enclosed smoking area" on the Encore is like? Are there any chairs or any exhaust system? Can you also smoke in the Encore's casino?  Thanks!

It has chairs and tables but is a tight fit. No exhaust (at least not that works). For me it's get in get out. There seems to be others who live in that little box. The casino has a separate smoking room with slots and a couple table games. Again, little exhaust, and I don't spend much time there.

Last time on the Encore there was a smoking area by the pool bar, which is nice to be in the open air, but no tables or chairs.

There's an enclosed smoking area in a room off the casino that has some slots and I think table games.  I've never been in there but it looks like it holds 20 people?  Could be off on that, though.  There's also one in the Cigar Lounge by Maltings.  But, I hear the cigar smokers get testy about cigarrette smokers coming in there.  It maybe holds 8-10 people.

Woooppps....just saw RB also answered.

the “smoking rooms” in some NCL casinos are small enclosed rooms in an otherwise non-smoking casino. yes, smoking is permitted in there, but it’s not designed as a smoking room for anyone who wishes to go in there and smoke. it’s not a smoking emporium… it’s a casino and the smoking privilege is intended for active players.

Purpose built facility to make it nicer for smokers. Yes, it does have special ventilation. Yes, when there are a lot of people in there smoking, it will get smoky.

NCL has removed chairs from many outdoors smoking areas to encourage smokers to get done and out. So, the Encore is kinda an anomaly. There are multiple tables in the room (more than the one in the picture).

I have never, ever seen that room empty, or that clean.  When did you take that?  4:00 am in Alaska?

It's a valid point and I get that.  My husband is hirsute as well, and it is helpful for that.  In my experience though it's usually a family with kids where they just line them up and spray away, regardless of wind blowing it straight into the person next to them.  It would be nice if the users apply it downwind away from everyone else.  I personally find it so much easier to put the sunscreen on in the cabin before putting on the bathing suit.

Second hardest for me. Trying to understand my wife was the first. Of course, I've never been successful at that, so I guess you could say I've never actually DONE it.

Tip my hat to those of you who quit.  I know it’s hard.  Read somewhere that it’s harder to quit nicotine than to kick heroin.  But, there are lots of cessation aids out there now!

Also seen reports that after a relatively short period of time, lungs clear themselves once you stop.

Lost more then one family member to lung cancer due to smoking.

But, have seen print ads showing Doctors smoking, insinuating it was safe!

Coming from me IMHO quitting is/was the hardest thing I have ever done. There is a physical addiction to nicotine and as you mentioned there are many aids that can help with that piece. To me the really tough one is the psychological piece. (the mental association of having a cigarette while doing certain activities..cup of coffee, with a beer, after dinner, talking on phone, etc etc. No matter how long I have quit for before....the urge to light up on those occasions never really does go away totally.  That urge goes away quickly..but never really stops happening.
