The cruise director just made an announcement that we will be heading back to Dover tomorrow at noon! We should arrive by Monday to pick up more guests and do the 7day IMG_7072.thumb.jpeg.391a4e9e8b6020742ae38433d2d6f6d9.jpeg revised itinerary!

So glad for those onboard, and those who are scheduled to sail on the Pride in the coming weeks - including me.  We head out next Friday to board the ship on July 30. Breathing a big sigh of relief!

We leave Aug 17th for our Aug 20th sailing.  I echo your words.

They let us go ashore at around 11pm. Went for a wander looking for a bar, but didn't like the look of any on the waterfront (seedy-looking places sandwiched between a few sex clubs). Found a few more but every one was closed so we came back to the ship. Not what we were expecting from our Friday night out on the town in Kiel.

Another ancient Carnival ship awaiting the scrapyard.  Too bad for the people who booked it and had their vacation turned upside down.

I am looking forward to my vacation on the Pride in August - seems like my kind of ship. I hate the new humongous ships, although I have nothing against others that like them. 😁

To each his own. If you don't like older ships, don't sail on them.  Easy peasy.

I'm with you about the "ancient" ships.

The Pride is the perfect class of ship.

Carnival just needs to do a better job of upkeep on the "ancient" ships.

When we were on the Sunshine less than a year ago, she was swiftly turning into a rust bucket. (literally)

Our balcony had rust everywhere and a small hole developing in the floor.

Looking off the balcony, the winch for the lifeboats was so rusted, I can't imagine it worked anymore.

I like this class of ship.  I love the nearly full wraparound outdoor promenade deck 3 and the spacious walkway around deck 10.  Walking the outdoor decks is one of my favorite shipboard activities.   Plus there is a separate jogging track up on the sports deck, which is good as walkers and joggers don’t always play well together.

I don’t know how full the ship was before people started to depart, but it never felt crowded.

I am onboard as a B2B passenger, and this  is a most strange experience! I’ve been on B2B cruises before, experiencing a nearly empty ship for a few hours.  This will be for a few days.  I’ve heard varying reports of how many of us are onboard, about a few hundred seems to be the consensus.  Besides we B2B-ers, there are others who chose to stay onboard, such as UK passengers who drove to the port.

Of course I am disappointed, but all the major cruise lines cancel and adjust itineraries for all kinds of reasons.   If I absolutely positively wanted to visit Gothenburg, Sweden or Edinburgh, I would have flown to those places and stayed in a hotel, as all experienced cruisers would say.  The compensation Carnival has offered seems fair to me.

I believe our situation is better than those on the July 21 cruise who had already flown to Europe when they got the word of the cancellation.  I feel for them.  We at least could wait out the uncertainty on the ship, not incurring additional expenses for an unknown period of time and having to deal with submitting requests to Carnival for refunds.

We are close to the scheduled noon sailing time.  I will cheer - and hold my breath - as we depart Kiel!

We are moving!  Cheers and applause when the horn blew. 😃

So how is it?  I was on some of the early cruises after the restart and it was weird but fun. No lines for anything and usually had an elevator to myself.  But just a few hundred guests onboard is next level.  Did they just have open seating for everyone at dinner in the MDR?

It is definitely weird. I’ve been on other B2B cruises which meant an empty ship for a few hours. This is a for few days.

No lines anywhere. Not at the omelette station and not at the pizza place, where I usually give up rather than wait.  I had both yesterday, though they were out of mushrooms LOL.  No lines at the Lido anywhere at any time.  No lines at guest services.   Pick an empty table anywhere you want in the Lido.   I haven’t been to the MDR. I’m traveling solo and prefer the Lido.  But the daily program still lists early and late seatings.  So far, the Lido hours have not changed; I thought they might be shortened. Besides mushrooms, we appear to be out of bananas, too.  No other shortages noticed.

There are still shows, musicians are playing in the evenings at various venues, and activities are being arranged.  Bars are open, and now that we are at sea, the casino is open - and very busy, given how few of us there are.  But it’s strange to see maybe 2 people sitting at atrium bar, maybe half a dozen in Serenity, 4 people watching the movie last night.   It’s odd to rarely encounter anyone in the cabin hallways or elevators.

I can’t help thinking about the crew that depends on tips.   We are limbo between 2 cruises, and we aren’t being charged the daily service charge. But my room steward is still cleaning my room, so I gave him cash.  I don’t usually add an extra tip to drink orders, but I am now as they have so few customers.  Hopefully Carnival is taking care of them in some way, but I figure I can help a bit, too.

I haven’t paid attention to the pools, as this isn’t swimming weather for me.  I happened to notice yesterday that one was closed, but I didn’t check the others.

I’ve had a lot of time to think, and at times I’ve wondered if I should have taken the generous offer to cancel the July 21 cruise, change my flight, and head home. But, despite the awful uncertainty of those couple days before we knew what was going on, I’m glad I stayed on board.  I’m relaxing, my bed is getting made, my bathroom is getting cleaned, and I am enjoying food I didn’t have to shop for, cook, or clean up after.

I expect he next cruise to be less than totally full, as some people probably canceled.

I’m waiting to see how the various credits for the next cruise will be handled - canceled excursions, port charges for canceled ports, pro-rated refund of cruise fare and purchased Wi-Fi, and the $500 goodwill credit.  I am expecting the $500 to be nonrefundable, and the rest to be refundable.   I would consider that fair.  I’ll know soon. We are on what is considered an extension of the July 9 cruise, and our new onboard account will be opened on Monday.

I stand corrected - we have bananas at breakfast this morning. And they are not overripe, as you would expect if they had been onboard since July 9 LOL.  Maybe we picked them up in Kiel??

That is a good question. On our 8-day cruise on Venezia last month, bananas disappeared at about the 5- or 6-day point, after they had already begun to look somewhat overripe. And no banana bread appeared that I noticed, so I assumed there were none left. Maybe there is a way to keep bananas longer than 6 days, or maybe the provisioning department did order various food items while you were stalled in Kiel.

Thanks so much and enjoy your fun day at sea.  So glad you got pizza and omelette yesterday.  I would have stayed onboard too.  You are having a truly unique experience.
