Halloween on Princess Ships

Hi,  We are looking at a short cruise for 5 nights from 30th October to 4th November.  We are not Halloween fans at all but have just noted this is a Halloween cruise.  How much will Halloween "take over" the ship?  Will it be in our faces at every turn or will there be spaces where we can escape all the hype?  Will the decorations come down on the 1st of November or are they likely to keep them up til the end of the cruise on the 4th?  We don't want to be killjoys but this is just not our thing.  Unfortunately, there isn't an alternative cruise we can take.  Thank you.

From my experience the ship has really been decorated up very fancy + a fun Halloween contest.

 

You'll love it seeing other people dresses up in costumes.

Not sure about international cruises but local cruises are well celebrated.   Decorations in the Atrium,  crew members celebrate and dressup.also.   A fair number of people bring costumes.

You don’t say if you’re departing NZ?

 

If it’s a US departure, yes you will have some guests dressing up and some crew.  We thought

it was fun to watch them. Not overbearing though. 

 

The other parts of the world, not as much celebrating in costume.

We did do a cruise via NZ/Australia during Halloween and seemed a lot less guests dressed up in halloween costumes.

Yes, we are departing New Zealand.  This country is beginning to get into the Halloween occasion in a bigger way now, but as I said before, it's not my thing.  Just don't want it in my face wherever I go on the ship.

I would expect that most decorations will be placed on Oct 30th and will be removed on Nov 4th, before the next sailing.  How intense the Halloween atmosphere will be depends more on the passengers than the crew. Once the planned Halloween festivities are over on the 31st, ship's staff will move on to other normal activities for the remaining 3 days.  In general a 5 night cruise is typically more of a party cruise than a longer cruise.

We were on Caribbean Princess for a 14-day Canada-New England cruise last year over Halloween.  We did not see any decorations until the morning of the 31st, and they were gone the next day.  Most of the ship was decorated, and many crew members and passengers wore costumes.  Daytime activities on the ship were normal, but evening activities were Halloween themed (Halloween trivia, movies, party and costume contest)

I wouldn't expect a huge deal for a cruise departing New Zealand. However, cruises out of the US can be pretty well impacted by Halloween. We did a 28 day Hawaii/South Pacific cruise in 2017 and there were many crew members - including the CD - who dressed up and also many passengers dressed in costumes. (We don't dress up for Halloween.) There were various decorations including impressive pumpkin carvings in the Piazza.
