Yet the RCL shareholders have doubled their share price in the last year.  I should feel sorry for them why why why ???...

And yet the stock price has doubled or come close to it.

While the stock may have doubled in the last year, those hanging on for the long term are still nowhere near the pricing just prior to the crash. Those shareholders are still at a 33% loss.

RCG is Renn Fund and RCL is Royal Carribean Group...

Yes I would suppose that most 401Ks do have RCL in their portfolios.  At least in mine any one stock does not make much of a difference.

Touche...

One of the challenges on the board. Royal Caribbean Group, which calls itself RCG but used to be Royal Caribbean Cruises, Limited, and trades under the symbol of RCL.

The core issue is X sold ‘All Inclusive’ and they cannot deliver. The result is ‘word smithing’ what was promised. X is simply a bad counterparty risk for the cruiser in this moment in time.

I so agree.  I booked a TA for 11/24 at the beginning of this year with AI.  They cancelled it, but let us keep our OBC and gave a little more.  I rebooked it (1 day less ).  Now that is cancelled and they will not let us keep our OBC offering a new $200.  OBC and no AI.  I don’t trust them and that is what they have destroyed.  They have lost me!

For the record, the cruise lines were not shut down for two years.  I sailed in March of 2020 right before the shutdown and again in September of 2021.  The sailings began even earlier than September but that was my first.  I will grant you that for quite some time after restart the ships were not full so they definitely didn't have full revenue but not sure I would call it little.

I rounded it off to two years,  i believe the actual time was 15 to 18 months.   Still a long time with little revenue coming in.    Here is a link that gives all the dates of activity or lack thereof during the pandemic. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj8vpry6uyAAxXemIkEHZCVBuUQFnoECBYQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcruiseradio.net%2Ftimeline-2020-cruise-ship-industry-shutdown%2F&usg=AOvVaw2f4HkehWIjZZMp8bzWvtP0&opi=89978449

They also may not have been completely shutdown but sailing half empty ships does not bring in the revenue that to be profitable. It literally just kept the ships sailing and some cash flow. And our last cruise in July 2022 and even then it was still only 2/3 full.

Well no need for you to take a collection for them cause they have done that for themselves.  They have had $900. from me since the beginning of the year.  They have canceled 2 cruises and been deceitful about what they were offering as far as the AI which they cancelled and the OBC they took back.  One can only conclude that they did this to hold $ and make interest off the $.  Stop pleading their case as they have none for the way they have conducted this.  They have destroyed trust and goodwill!

My two cents for what it's worth.

Cruising, like its traditional target audience, is changing and getting younger. What was once a speciality vacation is now freely available to the masses.

The golden era of captain's tables and romantic dinners has gone.

As more and more behemoths roll out of European shipyards quality is diluted by quantity.

It's now all about the blingy Insta photo not a discreet dinner following by blackjack at the casino.

COVID merely accentuated this change.

If you've got 4,000 people to feed as a captive audience, many of whom might be first-timers, reducing the quality of food without losing significant numbers of future passengers is a no-brainer when faced with huge COVID losses.

Food is now just part of the whole experience alongside the zip wires and all the other gimmicks that come along with each new vessel.

Think Blue Plate Special rather than Blue Riband.

Those of us happily chowing down in the OVC are the new target audience.

Of course others may differ... 😉

@markeb Bringing up Circuit City is interesting because they managed to commit business suicide by trying to make cuts to increase profitability.

The issue for dissatisfied cruisers isn't the effort to get profitable again. It is the constant changing of what is provided to customers who had been offered something else when they booked. As well as the changes made with little or no acknowledgment that they were cutting back. Only a business whose model involves  prepaid (by months) nonrefundable revenue could try to get away with that.

Like I said at the beginning. Not defending the decisions, just looking at some of the data behind the decisions. I am not asking for the collection plate to be passed, I am booked on another cruise with them in March and that is how you support a product you like and do the opposite if it isnt. I am sorry you had a bad experience and it is understandable to walk away. I get it.
