NCL price drop after final payment policy

This seems like the most relevant place to drop this info.:

We're sailing on the Jewel on 6/3 (24 days still sailing date as of today), and I noticed on the pricing/calendar grid that there was a small price drop between the balcony and suite categories (I had originally applied a CAS free balcony cert for the sailing, and then paid the differential to upgrade to the suite category).

I called in as I was hopeful that I could pick-up a few hundred $$$ in a FCC, but surprisingly the agent offered to do it as onboard credit instead.  I just looked at the booking online and she's applied On-Board Credit Certificates for $155/per, so $310 total.  For 15 minutes on the phone, not a bad deal.

(2) for $100/per, (2) for $50/per and (2) for $5/per.

That happened to me last month on a casino sailing as well.  I thought it was a mistake, but didn’t complain.  😃. I wonder if this is the new policy for CAS sailings or even if it’s across the board.

My haven cabin  which we booked in April 2022 dropped 4k after final payment. My TA called about the FCC and I was told my booking was ineligible. I am pushing the issue as I did not receive an adequate response as to why.  Given the large amount, I am having a hard time letting this go. Anyone have a similar issue ?

If anyone is interested, I pushed back with my TA  and had them call NCL again.  There was nothing about my rate that prohibited a FCC. I now have a $ 3400 cruise credit.  Not happy with my TA, but happy with the final results. Just sharing so that people know not to necessarily trust that the first  response you get is correct.

I saw a similar price drop on a Haven booking about a year ago.  NCL told my TA that since Haven was sold out, there was no price drop.  My TA told NCL that the Haven could not be sold out since it was possible to book a Haven cabin.  I got the FCC.

Just had a terrible experience with this. We booked our cruise 2 weeks ago and it was past final payment date so we paid for the entire cruise when we booked it. Checked again today and it's $500 less. We booked directly with NCL over the phone and when we spoke with our cruise agent we asked if they would price match and give us our money back if the cruise dropped in price and he said yes. Called them today, our cruise agent has been AWOL since last week (he won't call me back lol, and it's not like I've been calling him often or anything, I called once to ask about booking excursions and left him a voicemail and he never got back to me).

We talked to someone yesterday over the phone and told them the cruise had dropped in price and we'd like the price adjusted. Well, they told us on the phone they'd submit a request and we'd be notified via email when it's processed. They didn't give us any options and what they did was offer us future cruise credit, here's the quote from the email:

  • "These credits will be available for one year to book and sail, upon completion of your current sailing on Debarkation Day.

  • Please note terms and conditions include but are not limited to the following: Your future cruise credit (FCC) is only applicable towards sailings six days or longer, FCC provided is non-transferable, FCC provided is non-refundable, FCC is issued to guest 1 and 2 on the reservation only, guest who cancel their reservation prior to sailing will have their FCC deactivated from their client profile."

So basically what we got back was an opportunity to spend more money in the future. We don't cruise very often so we were not happy about this. We called them to see if it could be credit used on this ship, they said no. We told them it was unfair that when we booked the cruise the agent said they would price match and they basically said tough luck. My husband argued with them and told them he didn't believe them that there was nothing they could do about this since we were told the cruise would be price matched originally and the guy on the phone told him "I would risk my job to do anything against our policy so I'm done with this conversation" and hung up on him. If our first agent had explained that this is what would be offered, it wouldn't have been so grating when we got the email but he did not say that at all when we booked. He asked if we could listen to the call recording from when we booked and they said we'd have to basically sue them to get access to the call record.

Needless to say, my husband is not happy about this.

Are you new to cruising? You can always cancel and rebook with the lower price before final payment (NCL has refundable deposits), after final payment you get a FCC or maybe an upgrade. They lower prices as a last minute fire sale to unload unsold cabins, if you don’t care about cabin location or can drive to the port, waiting/gambling works for some. They don’t charge you more if prices increase after final payment.

Southwest will.  I've taken advantage of that many times.😎

Been many years since I’ve flown SW.  At my little regional airport were pretty much stuck with AA or Delta.

We just got $1,000 ($500 each) in FCC to be used on a future cruise in the next two years.  I called our PCP at NCL to ask if we could move up to a better cabin.  That math didn't actualy work out (my mistake) but she very helpfully offered to make an email request for FCC since the price of our inside cabin had dropped considerably.  She said it could take a week or so to hear from them but we got the email approving the FCC the same day.  Very happy as I wasn't expecting much since we were well past final payment.

At my large international airport there is no southwest. United basic economy is our go to, no price drops, fee to cancel and get a credit.

According to Delta, since Covid there are no longer fees to cancel or rebook at a lower price,  We have 9 tickets to Europe this summer on Delta and when I saw a price drop ($350 each) I gave them a call and they were as nice as can be.

Each passenger was given a credit in their name and it needs to be used 1 year from the date of the original purchase.

Not sure about other airlines but the agent made it sound like it was for all airlines.

That has been the "new way"

That seems to be the new norm as long as you don't book basic economy.

We just had the exact experience with my 9/1 cruise! We got a $1,000 FCC for a price drop. I was also happy to see that we have two years to use the FCC. I was initially told we would only have a year. We take a lot of land trips and I didn’t know whether we would want to take another week plus cruise next year.

Yes, I was very pleasantly surprised to get the email and see it is good for 2 years.  Not sure two years from what date but not going to "look a gift horse in the mouth".

We requested a one time price drop FCC for our NCL Spirit cruise sailing from Honolulu April 22, 2024 and arriving in Vancouver BC on May 8, 2024.   Received email on Jan 29th granting the request and stating the $300 pp FCC would be applied upon completion of the Spirit cruise and would be valid for sailings within 12 months from the scheduled date of debarkation.  The FCCs have now been applied to our accounts and show expiration of May 8, 2025.

Wanted to relate my story from 2022 with Delta.  I knew about the no change fees and the credits.  I had booked a flight and later saw that it had dropped like $50.  I called and I cannot remember what I said but they gave me a refund of the $50 to my CC, very nice experience.  About a month later there was a $350 price drop.  I called and they refused to give me the refund.  I said, can you not see where I called a month ago and you gave me a refund? They said yes but that the agent at the time had made a mistake and I should not have gotten the refund.  I ended up speaking to a supervisor.  They said that I was trying to abuse the Delta goodwill policy of no change fees after Covid.  She finally admitted that I could just cancel the flight and rebook but then I would have the $350 as a flight credit voucher, which I may not use.  I kept everything the way it was because she said she was making notes on the reservation and if I called in again about it, I may get banned from Delta.

Preposterous! But would that really be a great loss? 😉

We were booked on NCL Escape for a 5 day cruise to Bermuda last November.  After our final payment, the cruise fare had dropped on our mid ship balcony cabin.  My TA called Norwegian and they upgraded us to an Aft facing balcony cabin at no charge.  We really appreciated this free upgrade.
